Slate Mosaic Hummingbird

I’ve taken several mosaic classes from my good friend Cathy. With the pandemic Cathy is teaching online classes.  She’s a great teacher and so much fun! This past weekend I took a mosaic slate with with her. Mosaics is so relaxing. It turned out wonderfully.  Here is a picture before it’s grouted.

I’m not sure if you can see it but there is a hummingbird and a Colorado Columbine. I got these pieces from a fellow artist.  Aren’t they beautiful!

Here is the finished piece after grouting. I just love it!!

I’m not planning on putting it outside but I added sealer to the grout. I also added a couple of fused glass dots to the flowers and as the eye of the hummingbird. I love the dimension it gives. Plus added fused glass to mosaic makes the piece even better.

I really like the slate so I’m going to get some more slate and make some more of these. I also have more hummingbirds, a turtle, and sea horses too so I’ll get to play with more themes. I think it’s so pretty. I’d love to know what you think of my lovely slate mosaic.
