Handmade Fused Glass Tie Tack with Yellow Smiley Face on a Black glass base. The smiley face is murrine which is similar to millefiori.

Murrine is an Italian term for colored patterns or images made in a glass cane (long rods of glass) that are revealed when cut in cross-sections. Murrine can be made in infinite designs—some styles including smiley faces, aliens and skulls.

According to the dictionary a smile is a facial expression formed by flexing the muscles near both ends of the mouth and by flexing muscles throughout the mouth.

Albeit there is so much more to smiling than a facial expression. A smile sends a message to your brain that you’re happy. And when you’re happy, your body pumps out all kinds of feel-good endorphins. Smiling can also make others smile and reduces stress. Actually there are other reasons to smile as well. These fused glass smiling earrings might help you discover them.

All of my fused glass jewelry and art was created in my home studio from fusible art glass. Each piece is individually crafted, made by layering Bullseye glass in a glass kiln and firing it until the glass fused together. After an initial kiln firing, it was cold-worked (shaped) and re-fired to a beautiful polish, strength and durability. It is properly fused and annealed.
