Handmade Fused Glass Skull Earrings – with a skull murrine

Handmade Fused Glass Skull Earrings - with a skull murrine

Handmade Fused Glass Skull Tie Tack. The skull is a murrine.

Murrine is an Italian term for colored patterns or images made in a glass cane (long rods of glass) that are revealed when cut in cross-sections. Murrine can be made in infinite designs—some styles including smiley faces, aliens and skulls.

According to one of my favorite sites about symbolology, Celtic skull symbolic meaning deals with some very deep themes including: transience, power, spirit and portals of new understanding. There are a lot of reasons the skull was a pervasive and powerful symbol to the ancient Celts. Celtic culture viewed the head or skull to be the seat of power. Some texts point to the skull as the house of the soul.

All of my fused glass jewelry and art was created in my home studio from fusible art glass. Each piece is individually crafted, made by layering Bullseye glass in a glass kiln and firing it until the glass fused together. After an initial kiln firing, it was cold-worked (shaped) and re-fired to a beautiful polish, strength and durability. It is properly fused and annealed.

Your earring posts are on surgical steel and will arrive in an organza bag.
