I have always enjoyed learning, whether it is for my day job as a systems test engineer, project manager, or involving my passion for fused glass.
For my “day job” I have taken several seminars/classes (in person and computer based) and I even went back to college and got my Masters of Science in Project Management last year and I just received my PMP Certification. I took these classes to enhance my professional capabilities.
As for fused glass, I love taking classes, reading books (including eBooks) or even watching YouTube videos involving various fused glass techniques (which is one of the reasons I started my own YouTube channel). I’ll talk a little about each of these methods in future blogs.
I know artists who are completely self-taught and there is nothing wrong with trial and error (I’ve done that too many times to count). However, since I am not able to work my on my fused glass art on a regular basis it’s nice to learn new fused glass techniques without starting from scratch. Another of my favorite reasons for taking glass classes is I am able to be around other glass artists. I am around engineers and analysts all day the fused glass classes bring me a lot of joy and inspiration through meeting other fused glass artists and enthusiasts.
My next few blogs will provide some of my experiences in the fused glass, metal clay, metalsmithing classes; books; etc. I’ll also include reviews of some of the various books I’ve read and own.
