A symbol is an object that represents or stands for an idea, belief, or action. We use symbols every time we use someone’s name (a name represents an individual) or give flowers. Symbols can be words, visual images, sounds, or gestures and are used to convey ideas and beliefs. For example, a red rose symbolizes love and compassion.
I thought it would be fun to list some available symbols that can be added to fused glass through decals. One of the favorites and a standard is the Zodiac. The information below regarding the Zodiac is the aggregate from various sites on the internet. It was amazing to me how each site had different information on the same symbols.
Zodiac signs are grouped into four essential elements that when combined allow life to flourish. Each of the 12 astrology signs falls under a specific element and the four elements.
The zodiac sign elements are:
1. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are associated with action, enthusiasm and leadership, as well as an openness to change.
2. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) embody emotion, sensitivity and compassion.
3. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) symbolize practicality and a focus on material goals.
4. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are the signs of the intellect.
I have several different decals (above) for the western Zodiac sign as well as the typical characteristics and personality traits for each sign. I can put the Zodiac sign decals on various colors of glass albeit, as examples I am using the glass colors associated with each Zodiac sign. The glass colors associated with each Zodiac signs are: red for Aries and Scorpio, green for Taurus and Libra, purple for Gemini and Virgo, white for Cancer, yellow for Leo, blue for Sagittarius and Pisces, and black for Capricorn and Aquarius.
1. Aries – The Ram: March 21 – April 20: characteristics and personality traits often described people as passionate, loyal, patriotic, courageous, adventurous, confident, engaging, and have tremendous leadership skills. The color for Aries is red .
2. Taurus – The Bull: April 21 – May 21: characteristics and personality traits often described people as affectionate, reliable, ambitious, practical, patient, very independent, stubborn, connected to earth, and loyal. My favorite part is one site said Taurus’s are leaders, albeit can “take a backseat role…just as long as the person in charge knows what they are
doing and isn’t a moron”. The color for Taurus is green. Needless to say I am a Taurus!
3. Gemini – The Twins: May 22 – June 21: characteristics and personality traits often described people as inquisitive, clever, adaptable, lively, communicative, etc. Gemini are fun loving people are creative, mysterious, talkative, great sense of humor, and can be the life of the party. The color for Gemini is purple.
4. Cancer – The Crab June 22 – July 22: characteristics and personality traits often described people as imaginative, sympathetic, placid, intuitive, home lover, loving, nurturing, etc. Cancers make the best moms and best friends! The color for Cancer is white.
5. Leo – The Lion: July 23 -August 22: characteristics and personality traits often described people as honest, generous, self-motivated, warm-hearted, enthusiastic, etc. Leo’s are passionate about life, are leaders, and know exactly what they want in life. The color for Leo is yellow.
6. Virgo – The Virgin: August 23 – September 22: characteristics and personality traits often described people as orderly, modest, diligent, analytical, self-sufficient, etc. Virgos are organized, neat, dependable, loyal, and intelligent. The color for Virgo is purple.
7. Libra – The Scales: September 23 – October 22: characteristics and personality traits often described people as charming, perceptive, diplomatic, pleasant, refined, etc. Libras are typically good looking people like to dress well and know where to hang out. The color for Libra is green.
8. Scorpio – The Scorpion: October 23 – November 22: characteristics and personality traits often described people as focused, determined, emotional, hypnotic, complex,
sarcastic, courageous, tenacious, etc. The color for Scorpio is red.
9. Sagittarius – The Archer: November 23 – December 21: characteristics and personality traits often described people as ethical, humorous, generous, dynamic,
compassionate, etc. Sagittarius’s are risk takers and gamblers. The color for Sagittarius is blue.
10. Capricorn – The Goat-Fish: December 22 – January 20: characteristics and personality traits often described people as stable, trustworthy, persistent, ambitious, patient,
etc. Capricorns are thinkers, very mental. They are normally successful
and smart. The color for Capricorn is black.
11. Aquarius – The Water Bearer: January 21 – February 19: characteristics and personality traits often described people as Fixed, Air, Masculine Intellectual, connected to
civilization, rational, individualistic, iconoclastic, concerned with science, tolerant highly intelligent beings are always pondering “Why?” The color for Aquarius is black.
12. Pisces – The Fish: February 20- March 20: characteristics and personality traits often described people as romantic, generous, receptive, honest, affectionate, etc. The Pisces are very compassionate and giving as well as highly intuitive. The color for Pisces is blue.
There are many symbols so I will do a few this month and probably do one a month for my blogs until I show several I have available.
