Fused Glass using a Silhouette

I mentioned a while back that I bought a silhouette machine to help me with my fused glass. I even made a few pendants for a good friend.

Recently another good friend asked me to make some custom artwork with some pictures and copper.

I made them with cream and iridized glass. From the copper I cut hearts and horse shoes with my silhouette. I must admit it took me a while because I struggle with the proper procedures for using the silhouette. It’s interesting how some of the copper changed colors and even changed the color of the glass.  The reason is oxidation (why the copper changes color) and chemistry (copper and sulfur reacts – which can change the reaction between the glass and the copper).  Additionally the curly cues of the copper causes bubbles in the glass. So many cool aspects of the piece besides the beautiful sepia pictures of my friend’s family which I cut out with my silhouette as well.

I’m hoping to get even better with my silhouette. I have several more techniques I want to make using my silhouette.

I’m really happy with them and hope my friend is as well.  If you would like a custom fused glass artwork please email me elegantfusedglass@gmail.com
