For June I have been focusing my fused glass blogs on videos Tanya Veit teaches on her AAE Glass website in her Education center. I’ve blogged about several plates; the Glass Glo brick plate, Mosiac tile plate, the fused glass quilt plate, and one jewelry techniques. I thought I’d cover another jewelry technique for this blog. It’s a pretty versatile products. Again Tanya showed several techniques for the shimmers. I just focused on my favorite techniques using the satin shimmers.
First Satin shimmers are mica on a backing. I like the shimmers but you definately have to fire them correctly otherwise they kind of wash out.
This first picture shows some of the different colors of the shimmers. I also added gold to all of them, which I’ll talk about later. I really like this technique becase it looks a bit like stone and more subtle, especially if I wouldn’t have added the gold.
The next technique I really like with the shimmers is mixing the shimmer with dichroic, such a lovely mix. Clearly I had the firing perfect because these pendants really show off the shimmers and dichroic.
Tanya also showed two other techniques for shimmers but I just ran out of time to make them.
