Fused Glass with Mica

I’ve blogged about Mica before and even wrote a DYK about it. I love mica, it’s a mineral and actually comes in a rock form but most people think of it as a powder. Mica is used in cosmetics and electrical components.

For these pieces I used mica (gold, copper, silver, pearl, and rose gold) I got from Jodi (glass with a past).

The first picture is my little heart mica’s I also added a bit of flakes of each color too. The second picture I sandblast the fused glass tile. Then I slumped the piece into a little dish.

This next piece was kind of fun. I added some mica flakes then I used this great mold with 3 little drops. So very cool I love it.

This next piece I used a great mold and added a lot of mica, then sandblasted it. I really like the frosted look.

After sandblasting, I draped it into a votive. I just think the mica adds a lot of sparkle and makes everything prettier. I really like mica especially this type of mica. I like the powder but it’s nice to be able to use craft punches.
