Fused Glass Lanterns

When I got home from Breckenridge I decided I’d make some flower Lanterns. I actually made 4 but I messed up on the size of glass for 2 of them so I’ll have to finish them some other time.

Meanwhile the first one is a small black lantern with 6 sides. I use various colors of glass and various types of glass including sheet, vitrigraph, frit, and murrini. The base of each window is bronze iridized glass.

The second lantern is really tall and has 4 sides. I think it’s beautiful. I like the tall lantern because it gives more room for my glass pieces. This time I used iridized clear glass as the base and then made white and yellow flowers, blue iridized flowers, purple flowers, and red flowers.

I really like the lanterns, but they are a bit of work to get the glass just right and to cut so many pieces. Also for these I didn’t fire them to high (only around 1320) so they have a lot of texture.

I’m curious what y’all think and any ideas you have for lantern designs.
