First Shipment of Fused Glass Plates

As I mentioned in my April Newsletter, I’ve been working on a 400 plate order for a fabulous hotel and Restaurant in Florida.   Well I shipped my first portion of the order. I can not tell you how nervous I was. This is one of the toughest custom orders I’ve ever made.

First because making 1 piece is completely different than making 200. The big plat is painted and painting on glass is kind of tough. The first few I made I put on a light box to see if there were any translucent portions. Then I’d add more paint, but that just made the paint come off so it took me forever.  Finally after stressing out so much, I stopped putting it on the light box and just painted while I listened to podcasts. It was so much more zen. Then I opened the kiln and had a couple that were almost transparent. You see not only do I hand paint each  piece I hand mix the paint.  And of course you can fix them once their fired.

Anyway,  I was freaked out with worry.

When I heard from Sean and he said “they look awesome” and “we love them”!! Those 6 words made it worth all the stress.

Now only 175 more of each to go. My TDYs aren’t making it easier. I even showed my husband how to turn on my kilns. We’ll see how that works out!
