Finishing Fused Glass Earrings

Written by Karen × June 24, 2018
When I go on a trip I always try to do something glass related. If there isn’t any glass related activity close by typically bring things with me to finish. Did I mention I have a bad habit of starting fused glass projects and not finishing them? One of the worse things I procrastinate about is making earrings. I make them then put off assembling them. My excuse is earrings take several steps.

1: Unless the earrings are casted and a hole is built in I have to glue a bail on each glass cabochon. BTW, for the most part I don’t drill holes in my glass earrings because my hands shake a bit and I end up ruining the earnings. Plus gluing on bails on gives me several choices; dangle, clips, lever, or posts. Also various colors: copper, silver (plated), gold (plated), etc.

2: After the glue sets (24 hrs) I have to add jump rings &/or the earring finding: wires (for dangles), clip earrings, levers, or posts (posts can also dangle).

  1. Then I typically put them on an earring card and add the backings for both the dangles and posts.
  2. Also inevitably I always misplace an earring or two and end up with an orphan (which I wrote about earlier)

Anyway my point is even when I’m away from my fused glass I try to take it with me and earrings are easy to bring with me and finish on my trip so now I have a myriad of earrings for my shows starting in August.

My name is Karen and I create each piece of Fused Glass jewelry and gallery art in my home studio in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My family is intricately involved in the process, my daughter Sky helps me with my shows and my husband built the website. My wish is to have others enjoy my fused glass jewelry and art pieces as much as I do.
