Fresh From the Kiln:

In October our dog, Lady, passed away. She was sick for a while but it was still difficult to lose her. We miss every day.  My husband asked me if I could make a memorial stone with glass. The top picture is the first fusing.  Using cremations is kind of tricky, in fact both hearts are were made the same size. The bottom picture has a picture of lady on top of the ashes and the one on the left has the heart / cremations in the middle with decals on the top and the bottom.  I miss lady she was 9 years old. Rest in peace lady, we love you.

I love making soap dishes and sushi dishes so I thought I'd do a little something special for my customers that buy either one. If you buy a fused glass sushi dish from me I'll give you a set of chop sticks.  It's kind of funny I know because most people don't really use these dishes for sushi but it …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

So for this did you know I got the inspiration from the projects I did in July. So I took a circle of glass weighed it then made them out of powder, fine, medium, and coarse.  I wanted to see what each will look like.

Here are all 4 frits (powder, fine, medium, and coarse).

---

So this one is all powdered glass, it was pretty thick.

This is after the powder is fired. It's smaller, it shrank in but it's solid.

---

This is exactly the same size and weight of fine frit.

This is the fine fired. As you can see it shrank but not as much as the powder and this one was a little thinner so it has a couple of holes. The color is very dense.

---

This is the medium frit. Again it's the same size and weight.

This is the medium frit and is a bit more transparent than the fine and powder.

---

Now this one is the coarse frit, I mixed the cherry blossom with the clear frit.

Now this one is the coarse frit, so there are there are clear spots.

---

So I liked how it the plain ones turned out, I wanted to see how they would turn out if I mixed two frits together. So this is the fine and powder (equal parts).

This is the fine and powder mix. It's solid and didn't shrink as much as just the powder alone and I don't have to use as much of the powder so I like it better.

---

This is the fine and medium frit mixed. Again I used equal parts fine and medium.

It turned out great, I like how you can see the medium frit pieces mixed with the fine.

---

This is the medium and the coarse frit combined.

I like it but I used a mixture of opals and transparent. I think I'd like it better if I used transparent coarse but I think this would make a pretty mushroom.

---

So this one is a mixture of all the frits; powder, fine, medium, and coarse.

I'm not a fan of this one. I think it's because I used dark colors.

---

Here are all 4 of the mixtures (powder & fine, fine & medium, medium & coarse, and then all of them).  I'm sure you are wondering what I plan on doing with them.

---

I've decided to turn a couple into mushrooms however I honly have one bottle ready so only one is finished for now. It looks awesome!
