Fused Glass Ingots for Jewelry

Fused Glass Ingots for Jewelry

Sometimes, when I create fused glass jewelry I make a block of glass to cut my pieces from. In metal terms a block of metal is called ingot so I thought I'd steal the term for my glass ingots. Anyway first I fuse various pieces of glass together. I added a lot of dichroic and various colors and take it …Read more.

Screen Printed Fused Glass Serenity Prayer!

Screen Printed Fused Glass Serenity Prayer!

I did it, I screen printed the serenity prayer on fused glass. It took me forever but Isn't she beautiful. The first one didn't turn out because white isn't strong enough to stand up to the background. I wish it was because the white against the aventurine blue was beautiful. With this one I went a lighter Caribbean blue with iridized fused …

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

This month's DYK is a review of this year's most popular DYK and Blogs for 2016! Kind of my Year in Review!

First I received several commercial orders this year for both hotels and restaurants. I really enjoy the challenge of making 100 soap dishes or lots of huge bowls. It's also very nice to know I have my fused glass artwork in hotels and restaurants in various locations in the US.

In January I blogged a lot about commercial orders. These huge fused glass bowls were for a Restaurant they are beautiful. This was just one order. I enjoy commercial orders because they are a bit of a challenge.

These fused glass bowls were also for a restaurant, it was so tough for me because I had to cut all of the circles by hand! Since each bowl is 2 layers, that's a lot of circles!! I love the texture and the size.

---

I also did a lot of refusing. Either because I broke a piece or because one of my customers broke one of their fused glass pieces. One I wrote about in January the other I wrote about in Feb.

This is a fused glass art piece I made out of a big pate de vere piece I broke. I love mermaids and this pieces is beautiful. The 2nd piece I made out of my broken piece was seahorses.

Fused glass websites

Two other fused glass bowls I made from a piece that one of my customers broke. This was actually the first time an actual customer broke something that I refused. I loved them both!

---

I wrote a few  "did you knows" about some of my favorite fused glass techniques. Below are just a few of them including fused glass screenmelts.

Another one of my favorite techniques is Fused glass pocket vases. I really like these vases, so many uses. Also so many variations of a fused glass pockets can be created.

Fused glass castings. I really liked my flowers, koi, and bees. This is one of my favorite flower bowls!

I really love my fused glass drop vases.  They take so much work and so many steps but they are each truly unique and amazing! This one is one of my favorites!

And of course my most recent DYK in November my fused glass screen prints. Of all my screen prints this one is definitely my favorite. It's so beautiful!!

---

I also took some great classes, including from the great Bob Leatherbarrow. I love Salt Springs Island and I love the crackle technique. * Dang it I really am having a rough time getting them to rotate this time!

My fabulous class in New York with Amanda Taylor and my great friends. This is just one of my fused glass bowls. I loved being with my friends and all of the amazing bowls I made!  Plus I learned a lot from Amanda and Lance.

I also took two fun classes with Shelley painting fused glass. Shelley is an amazing artist and a fantastic teacher!

I have some wonderful classes planned for 2017 as well!

---

I also made a lot of custom fused glass pieces, a lot of them were with pictures.

I made several semicolon fused glass dichroic pendants

I also made several sepia fused glass pieces for various friends and customers.

---

I also increased my fused glass snap sizes and styles. I'm continuing to expand my custom snap options. I'll be talking more about that next year!!

---

I also discussed what inspires me with my fused glass and  the various processes in fused glass.

---

Considering I write between 8-10 blogs a month and a DYK for each newsletter the avove is just a couple of the fused glass topics I wrote about in 2016. I look forwadrd to doing even more topics in 2017.  Let me know if you would like a  custom fused glass via email (elegantfusedglass@gmail.com)

Keeping my kilns warm,

Karen

**BTW one of my favorite pieces I made this year is my fused glass koi bowl, albeit this picture doesn't come close to showing it's depth!
