Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

In October's Fused Glass newsletter I did a review of my YouTube videos the response was so positive I thought I'd review some of my favorite educational blogs.   Plus with the new year coming up I want to take my older blogs off the main page of my Elegant Fused glass by Karen website.

If you have any questions Please let me know (elegantfusedglass@gmail.com)

First I love learning about fused glass. I've taken countless classes, I've read numerous books, ebooks, watched webinars, dvd's etc. In fact one of my favorite newsletters of all times is August 2013.  I love it because it shows a little bit of my fusing journey. Of course since then I've taken numerous more classes including this month with Patty Gray and earlier this year I took a class from the amazing Bob Leatherbarrow. In 2016, I'd like to do an entire month of Tanya Veit!

Not only did I do a video about decals I also did a blog about decals. As I tell all my customers I have every type of decal and can put them on all types of glass. So the blog that covers my decals was in Nov 2013's newsletter.

Recently I've received a lot of questions regarding Millefiori and Murrine.  Ironically I wrote a blog in Sept 2013 explaining the difference between Millefiori and Murrine.

Millefiori in Italian stand for a thousand flowers (“mille” [thousand] and “fiori” [flowers]. Millefiori is a glass technique, which produces decorative patterns in the glass. The millefiori technique involves producing canes or rods known as murrine (common pluralization murrini).

I always tell people I have every color of fused glass pendants under the sun including blue, green, red, purple, white, etc. Well in Nov 2013 I wrote a blog about various Colors of Fused glass.

Color is all around us. We see it all the time. The primary colors of light are red, green, and blue. Color psychology affects our lives in so many ways, yet we often do not realize the impact of our color choices. This impact of the many colors in our environment is usually not conscious. Color is a form of non-verbal communication. Sometimes we get an uneasy feeling in certain rooms or very relaxed in another, but we call this a mood. Color can influence our emotions, our actions and how we respond to various people, things, and ideas. Sometimes the meaning of colors can vary depending on personal preference, and other times due to cultural background. Color research is going on in laboratories all over the world. Color therapy is being used by psychologists and business people.

Zodiac signs are grouped into four essential elements that when combined allow life to flourish. Each of the 12 astrology signs falls under a specific element and the four elements.

In Nov 2013, I also did a foundation blog regarding Fused Glass Zodiac Symbols.

Then during 2014  I did blogs for each of the zodiacs with explanations of each zodiac. I can put the western zodiac symbol on any color of fused glass pendant (which can also be changed into key-chains).

• Aquarius

• Pisces

• Aries

• Taurus

• Gemini

• Cancer

• Leo

• Virgo

• Libra

• Scorpio

• Sagittarius

• Capricorn

In addition to the western zodiac I did a blog about Chinese Zodiac symbols.   I can put the Chinese zodiac symbol on any color of fused glass pendant (which can also be changed into keychains).

Chinese Zodiac Signs – The 12 Animals Twelve animals represent the rotating 12-year cycle that is the basis of the Chinese Zodiac. The characteristics of those born in the year of the listed animals. There are some really great websites that explain the Chinese Zodiac but just like the Western Zodiac they vary a little. To determine what your Chinese Animal is check the calendar I’ve included.  For one version of the legend how the animals were chosen check out this site. It is interesting how the rat won out over the poor cat – notice no year of the cat.

In Dec 2013 I did a foundation blog about my fused glass Awareness Ribbons.

Awareness ribbons have come to symbolize various concerns through ribbon colors or patterns including cancer, disabilities,  etc.. The first ribbon that was represented as a meaningful object in history was the yellow ribbon that was mentioned in a marching song, which was sung by the military in the United States. Regarding awareness ribbons I am reminded by the 1970s song “Tie a Yellow Ribbon ‘Round the Ole Oak Tree“.

Then for each month in 2014 I did blogs for each month for the awareness ribbons.

• January Awareness Ribbons

• February Awareness Ribbons

• March Awareness Ribbons

• April Awareness Ribbons

• May Awareness Ribbons

• June Awareness Ribbons

• July Awareness Ribbons

• August Awareness Ribbons

• September Awareness Ribbons

• October Awareness Ribbons

• November Awareness Ribbons

• December Awareness Ribbons
