Fused Glass March 2nd Class

Fused Glass March 2nd Class

This month I had a wonderful class with two talented students, which yes is less than my minimum of three students. I had a third student scheduled, but she dropped out and I didn't have time to get a 3rd student, and I didn't want to punish my other two students by canceling the class. I'm glad I didn't cancel …Read more.

Beautiful Fused Glass Dishes

Beautiful Fused Glass Dishes

I love making little fused glass dishes. The small 3-inch square dishes are perfect for rings, tea bags, spoons, a small candle, or just as a pretty little dish. Here are 7 of my newest 3-inch dishes. I also made these very cool dishes. One is the 3 inch and 4-inch dishes, they are more of an artist …Read more.

Fused Glass Coral and Flower Class

In March I offered a fused glass coral and flower class. I had two advanced students sign up for the class. This class has several techniques that they could make including coral, lattice, lace, and even flowers. I had two advanced students take the class. What a fun and challenging class, which is why two students instead of my normal …Read more.

White and Clear Production Fused Glass Dishes

White and Clear Production Fused Glass Dishes

This month I received an order for 50 white and clear soap dishes. I love getting orders for custom production fused glass dishes for hotels and restaurants. This is actually one of the most difficult soap dishes I make. because instead of 2 layers of glass I cut 5 for the top and then 1 for the bottom. After cutting …Read more.

Cool New Fused Glass Plant Stakes

Cool New Fused Glass Plant Stakes

Last month I posted the following new Fused Glass Plant Stakes, while I was making them, I got excited about making some different plant stakes. So, the tops of these plant stakes were previously casted pieces, so I made the bottoms to fit and match the top. I also used colored glass stakes. If you look closely the 3 on …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to discuss. This month's DYK is about my trip to Virginia.

This month I went to Virginia for a business trip. I stayed in a nice hotel on a small pretty river.

While on the way to baggage claim what do you think I saw?  GLASS!!!

My co-worker Steve looked it up and said he'd like to go with me!

---

We went to the Perry Glass Studio thinking it was the Museum, but boy did I luck out, it's a studio and WOW did they have great coldworking equipment!

They also had beautiful glass displays.  Lots of flameworking and I love the orange and yellow frit screen prints!

Yes, I bought a shirt and a book about the Chrysler Museum of Art's glass display!

I wish I had time to take a class! Maybe next time.

---

Current glass artists believe they create new techniques. However, after spending hours in The Chrysler Museum of Art as well as the museum I went to on Murano and of course Corning Glass Museum you want to know a secret.

I can only think of 2 techniques that I didn't see in one of these museums. The "crackle" by Bob Leatherbarrow (an amazing artist / instructor) and what I call tapestry by the late great glass artist David Alcala. I am blessed to say I have taken classes by both of these amazing men.

Besides all of the fabulous glass in this the Chrysler Museum of Art is they had a couple of educational displays about glass including how glass is made, some types of glass including acid etching, casting, flameworking, blowing, gilding, pressed, fusing, stain glass, reverse painting, enameling, cutting, and more.

This is one of my favor educational displays - how the color of glass is made (albeit I've been taught purple glass is also made with gold.

---

I took over 300 pictures (I would have taken more but my camera went dead), I tried to limit how many I include here but you can see I didn't do a great job at that!

Look at those glass mugs - they remind me of the ones I got in Germany. I LOVE the glass lamps!

---

I wish my photography showed how beautiful this glass is, especially the blue piece in the upper right.

These were fun pieces, the ones on the right remind me of batons or walking sticks.

---

I grouped these together because look closely. The goblet on the upper left side has twisty cane, the black ones have what looks like confetti, the ones in the lower left remind me of the Christmas ornaments I bought in Germany. The vase in the middle is millefiori! What you may not know are the vases on the right are heat sensitive glass. I'll have to do a piece showing this technique.

---

Here is some mirrored glass, enameled glass vases and the two on the bottom left are just gorgeous!

Again, these glass pieces are so amazing, I've always been fascinated by cameos and these are stunning!

---

I wish I had the vocabulary to truly describe this piece I've been wanting to make a piece like this - combining glass and wood is such a fun and perfect way to display glass!

---

OK - I just won't even try to explain how fabulous these pieces are - OUTSTANDING and LOVELY!

I've always loved Tiffany lamps and these are beautiful!

Who knew that Tiffany also made large "paintings" that are pressed glass! I just loved this piece. Pressed glass!

---

Iridized Glass! It's fascinating how iridized glass has been around so long! Aren't these striking!

These are also iridized but a bit older, I love iridized glass! These are so pretty!

---

I just LOVE these pieces they are a mix of pate-de-vere and etched pieces. STUNNING!

---

These 4 pieces are so unique, the snowflake one is made out of what looks like clear confetti, the circle is like coral but it's a sphere, the green looks like kiln carving and I have no idea what the pink piece is!

Very cool!

---

The green panels are fused glass (on edge strip cutting) and they are huge!

Glass Tapestries - look at the detail!

Beautiful!

---

It's not my style of jewelry but it's gorgeous and of course it's glass!

---

I enjoyed spending time in this museum, so much beautiful glass. If my phone wasn't going dead, I could have spent even more time here!

BTW the glass wing was just a small portion of the museum!

---

No matter where I go, I am always amazed by the beautiful glass. The glass in this picture was different restaurants and even a nail salon.

Thank you, Steve, for being so patient with me!

---
---

No matter where I go, it's always great to come home to Colorado and my family.

It's not my Sangre's but I do LOVE Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak!
