July 2024 NewsletterI'm sorry for the delay of this newsletter, I was running behind on finishing up my posts.
I will be out of the country during August so I will not be able to teach any classes in August. If you'd like to schedule a class in September, please let me know. All you need is 3 or more people, and we can provide a private class with lots of options.
Sadly, I will not be able to attend the Woodland Park Craft Show so my intent is to have home shows starting in October. As always there will be a free gift just for attending. I'll also have other fun surprises. I hope you will be able to attend.

I've spoken about my fabulous commercial businesses that support my small, fused glass business. One of my favorite small businesses that supports my glass business is here in Colorado. Below are just a few of the custom pieces I've made for them. Quite the variety! On our way back from Delta visiting my husband's parents we stopped by the hotel/restaurant …Read more.

Back in March one of my customers asked me if I could teach her how to pull vitrigraph. I love making vitrigraph so I had no problem teaching a basic vitrigraph class. The main reason is people are a bit scared to touch molten glass - I don't understand why - LOL. First, I wanted to show her what you …

During my visit with my sister earlier this year, she talked about her little house on a Florida river. Laurie has always liked fishing, so we talked about making her a fish related gift. Here are the pieces I made for my beautiful sister. I made enough fused glass fish for 2 art pieces. The first with 10 fish for …Read more.

I held another fused glass class in July, this time it was for plant stakes and magnets. Julie and her family have taken several classes with me, they are all so creative. Here are the liability forms and their fused glass stirrers (their free gift). I also gave them an option of magnets as their free gift, but I don't …Read more.

I scheduled a Fused Glass Ornament Class this month and 3 of my students came for the class. The question is did they make ornaments? Yes and no - 1 person made ornaments the other two students chose another project. It didn't really bother me because they have all taken multiple classes with me. I always have my students sign …Read more.

One of my favorite things to say about fused glass is "everything looks better with glass". I've added fused glass dots to spoons, boxes, knives, and so much more. Here are just a few examples. This time I added fused glass to tiny bottles. Aren't they so cute. They can be used for anything you can think of. Of course, …Read more.

I love creating fused glass. I also enjoy donating my fused glass to worthy causes. My friend Cathy told me about Inside Out Youth Services for LGBTQ+ youth 13-24. I have many gay and lesbian friends and you may not know it, my daughter is part of the LGBTQ+ community. I do not agree with all the trans policies, however …Read more.

Last month I had an order for 80 fused glass black dishes for a hotel/restaurant. You won't believe it but I received another order for 50 fused glass black dishes, but from another hotel in a different state. Here they are in the kiln for a full fuse, fused, washed, ready for slumping and slumped. Here are the finished fused …Read more.

I've mentioned Gary from the www.bigredbarnoriginal.com, a few times. He is a wonderful artist. I've bought numerous pieces from him. I commissioned him to create a picture of my view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. I've showed you the painting Gary created for me, it is a mixed media painting. Isn't it stunning! The details are magnificent, he added …Read more.

Did you know ...This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to discuss. This "Did You Know" is finishing some of my projects. This month's DYK is about our trip to Delta Colorado at the end of June.
In June my husband and I took a trip to Delta to visit his parents. Normally we take HWY 50 to Gunnison to Montrose and then Delta, However, Dan decided to go to Crested Butte. All I can say is WOW. This group of pictures are the flowers heading into Crested Butte. Stunning!
Crested Butte is named appropriately, I love the mountains that surround Crested Butte.
Here ae more flowers some on the way in and some were in town.
Crested Butte is a cute little town. Of course, very crowded in the summer.
Our focus was to see the flowers so here are some pictures heading out of town and with a focus on the mountains.
I wish you could see all the flowers in these pictures, they were truly beautiful. And look at the mountains.
As we drove over the pass the flowers were extraordinary. The views were gorgeous.
There were so many aspen trees - they are so tall. There is a ravine, and the aspens go all the way down to the bottom.
These pictures don't come close to the beauty of this pass.
This field was full of purple and yellow flowers - so many I had to show lots of pictures.
I love making flower vases and aspens and finally put some on night light findings.
In addition to the flowers the mountains are beyond majestic!
Leaving the Kebler pass and on to highway 133.
It's shocking how many coal minds there are in Colorado. This is a huge one.
It was a fun simple visit. We enjoy seeing our niece, grandniece, Dan's sisters, dad, and mom.
Dan was raised in Colorado, so we visited where he spent his formative years, Hotchkiss Colorado. It was fun listening to his stories about catching the train to school and working the farm. It's always good to go home.
Heading back over to the front range we followed the North Fork Gunnison River. What a beautiful drive.
Such a beautiful drive, so many pretty spots.
I just wish the pictures showed how gorgeous the views truly are.
As we were driving, we look over and yep that's a moose. It was a juvenile, we watched it for a few minutes. So cute.
In Redstone we stopped at the Coke ovens. These ovens were fired up to 2400ºF to cook the coal in to coking coal to be used in Osgood’s steel mill in Pueblo.
Imagine the glass or ceramics that could be created in these kilns. Loved them. Some are restored but I like them all!
The beauty of this area is beyond description. If you go to the western slop by all means that this route and visit Redstone.
We also stopped in Aspen and then drove over Independence pass. If you've never driven independence pass I highly recommend it.
We've gone over independence pass numerous times and it never gets old. We love it. I can't recommend it enough. Just remember, take it slow and stop and smell the flowers and visit the amazing spots along the way.
I wanted to show you a close up of the Redstone COKE oven, plaque.
