As always, I like to show my setup for the students, including their supplies e.g., vitrigraph, opaque glass, transparent, murrine, millefiori, cane, and so much …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to discuss.  This "Did You Know" is about my 2nd work trip to Korea. This time I took my beautiful sister Laurie with me. Laurie took care of me when I was young. This is just my way of saying thank you.

---

Laurie and I met in San Francisco and then flew together to Incheon. It was wonderful seeing my big sister, isn't she beautiful!!

---

We stayed at a hotel close to the Changgyeonggung Palace. We literally walked a couple of blocks, and we were there. This was a beautiful section of the palace grounds; there were flowers, a lake, and a green house. We Loved it!

---

We also walked to the other side of the palace grounds so very beautiful. While we were walking back to the hotel, we walked over the bridge and found columbine - the Colorado state flower. How cool is that!!

---

After visiting the palace, we rested a bit then went to the Kwangjang Market. I cannot tell you how cool it was. There were so many kinds of food and a myriad of other items. We ate at a great little place. The food and the rice wine was delicious.

---

The next day we went downtown Seoul to a big mall (Lotte), we were there for 16 minutes flat. It was not our kind of mall. We left and then just enjoyed walking around the city and came across another market - again so cool. There were little allies with food stalls, it was amazing!

---

This was a business trip for me, so I went to work, but got off early enough to show Laurie how to use the train. BTW the train is pretty easy and so clean. Anyway, we went to the city of Suwan, what a great city. This is Hwaseong Haenggung Palace.  It was different than the other palaces because it showed a representation of what it looked like back in the day.

Here are some more pictures of Suwon. It's a walled city. We shopped, had coffee in this great little cafe and had a very unique dinner. What a fun time. Laurie actually went back on one of the days I worked.

---

After my conference we went back up to Seoul. We stayed in a little boutique hotel which was a bit interesting. See the towel Laurie is holding up? That was the bath towel! LOL and if you look closely at the bathroom, the shower and toilet were combined into one. - At first, we were like oh no, but it was actually easy and convenient (remember to remove the TP). Our hotel was 2 blocks from the coolest market yet, food, shops, and the quaintest decor I've seen. We loved sitting on the porch drinking soju and watching all the people walking by.

As we were walking down the market streets Laurie saw a bunch of cops and asked to take a picture. Her husband is a cop, so she thought it was funny and thought he'd get a kick out of it. We also went to this fabulous bakery - WOW - Delicious!

---

We also visited Bukchon Hanok Village. We hiked up to the observatory and had tea and just chilled and enjoyed the view.

---

Ironically the day Laurie and I flew back to the states was my birthday, in case you didn't know, Korea is 15 hours in the future, so I started on my birthday, flew for 25 hrs and it was still my birthday when I got home.  The gentleman in the middle suggested a drinking "game". Judy, our flight attendant, was wonderful and helped us out with Vodka, cranberry juice, and orange juice. She also brought me an ice cream Sunday, a cheese platter and champagne.  What a great birthday!!

---

I had a fabulous visit with my sister and a wonderful birthday. I was stationed in Japan, but I'm really enjoying spending time in Korea. I hope you don't mind me writing about Korea again. I don't go back until June, so you have a bit of a break.
