Fused Glass Dichroic Jewelry Class at Festivitea

Fused Glass Dichroic Jewelry Class at Festivitea

In February I was scheduled to teach a Fused Glass Dichroic Jewelry Class at Festivitea, however, we had a snow storm and had to delay it until I returned from my trip to Korea. Here are some of the myriad of samples I made for the class. The samples included iridized, black dichroic (textured, pattern, and solid), and clear glass …Read more.

New Fused Glass Vases

New Fused Glass Vases

Recently I added bases to a few more of my fused glass vases. I've done this before and I just think the bases add something to some vases. Here are a few of my older fused glass vases that I added bases to and have posted about before. This new fused glass amber vase is a drop vase, but instead …Read more.

Unique Fused Glass Dishes

Unique Fused Glass Dishes

I love making fused glass dishes, whether they are functional or more artistic. Here are a couple of my functional dishes, the dinner plates below are in my Westcliffe home. Of course I make my tea dishes and soap dishes. So yes I love my functional dishes. However, I love more artistic dishes as well. Here are two "dishes" I …Read more.

Fused Glass Candle Shield

Fused Glass Candle Shield

In my last post I wrote about my fused glass night lights. Another of my favorite things to make is candle shields. I make them the same way but instead of plugging them in as a night light, they can sit anywhere and light up. Again, they are functional and art all in one. Just like my night lights I …Read more.

Fused Glass Night Lights

I love making fused glass night lights. They are functional and art all in one. Here are some of my fused glass aspen night lights. They are some of my favorites. In addition to my aspens, I made some fused glass flower vase night lights. Perfect for Mother's Day. I think I showed my screen-printed night lights before, but they …Read more.

Resin and glass Cabochons

Resin and glass Cabochons

When I was making the resin, glass, and shell artwork I had some extra resin. With my extra resin I decided to add dried flowers to some of my fused glass cabochons. This one is nice and smooth. It's simple but really smooth. I'm not sure what I will make with it, either a magnet or pendant. What do you …Read more.

Resin and Glass

Resin and Glass

Years ago, I made some resin and glass pieces, they didn't turn out all that well. I couldn't figure out how to take the edges off and make it look ok. I haven't taken the time to make more of them. Here are the resin pieces I made years ago. A year or so ago I bought a resin kit …

Spoons with Fused Glass Dots

Spoons with Fused Glass Dots

One of my favorite things to make are glass stirrers. They are perfect for mixed drinks, coffee, tea, hot coco, pretty much any drinks that you want to use them for. However, I also make something else to use for drinks. I make a lot of fused glass dots. Sometimes I make jewelry with them and other times I add …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to discuss.  This "Did You Know" is about my work trip to Korea.

---

So where did I spend the last 2 weeks of February and the first 2 weeks of March. I was in Korea for work. The work was tough, 12 hr mids are a bit challenging for an old woman. Luckily for me my co-workers were awesome and of course the mission is meaningful.

---

I had a couple days off and went with one of my co-workers to the National Museum of Korea.

Here are some of my favorite pieces of artwork I enjoyed looking at. It was an amazing museum. I also learned a lot about Korea's history.

As you know I love glass, ceramics and artwork. Here are some beautiful pieces of glass, ceramics, and artists supplies! LOVE it!

Even though it was cold the gardens were still lovely. I can imagine they are stunning in the spring & summer.

Jongmyo is a Confucian shrine in the Seoul, South Korea. It was originally built during the Joseon period (1392–1897) for memorial services for deceased kings and queens.

The main building was being renovated, but it was still worth visiting. I bet it even more beautiful in the spring and summer.

We walked all around it, so lovely and peaceful. I love walking around historic places.

---

We also got to visit one of the palaces in Seoul. Below is from Wikipedia: Changdeokgung is considered the Palace of Prospering Virtue), in Jongno District a couple blocks from the shrine above. It is one of the "Five Grand Palaces" built by the kings of the Joseon dynasty (1392–1897).

We walked all around the grounds and it was spectacular. I loved seeing women and girls dressed in traditional attire. I'd love to do that.

Again, according to Wikipedia, Changdeokgung was the most favored palace of many Joseon kings and retained many elements dating from the Three Kingdoms of Korea period that were not incorporated in the more contemporary Gyeongbokgung.

I had to show some of the fabulous food I ate while I was in Korea. First the rice wine was so smooth, and the soju was even smoother! The red dessert has a funny story and what is difficult to see is it's shaved ice. However, there is some type of dairy in the shaved ice, it was delicious.  The next picture is just part of our breakfast every day in addition to eggs and French toast. The next picture is my lunch when I was downtown Seoul - absolutely fabulous! The bread bowl wasn't soup it was pasta - again delicious.  Lastly is bulgogi, we ate here 4 times fantastic!!  LOVE the food in Korea!

---

I hope you don't mind seeing my trip to Korea, btw I go back in April - maybe I'll go to another palace!

I ended my month in my little piece of Heaven Westcliffe Colorado.
