I want to apologize, 1st for not having a class this month - my intention was to have a class on 26 August, but I just got off of 3 weeks of shift work - two of those weeks were mids. I hate mids, they are so difficult for the body and mind. But I made it through, albeit they are not conducive to having time for classes. Second for getting this out a few days late. Additionally, I have a TDY (Business Trip) overseas in September, but I still should be able to have a class the 9th of September and a home show the 10th of September. Please let me know if you would like to take a class or would like to stop by my home show. I'll send a class announcement out NLT Monday.

A few years ago, we had a family reunion, and I was able to meet my cousins that I've either never met or haven't seen in 50 years. Over the last few years, we've gotten to know each other even more, and it's been a wonderful experience. my brother, sisters, and cousins, …Read more.

Anyone who knows me, knows I love glass. In fact, that's why I started making glass, for me. It's kind of funny, half the time when I make something I want to keep it. Anyway, here are a few more things I've made either straight up for me or I made and then couldn't part with it. First, I made …Read more.

I love boxes. I have boxes of every shape and material from all over the world. Most of which I got when I was stationed overseas years ago from Germany, Poland, Czech, etc. In fact, the round one I got from Greece when I was in my 20's. BTW these are just a fraction of boxes I have in my …Read more.

I like to do posts anytime I change the kiln's relay. First because it helps me track how often I do change them. Second reason is because it shows you that it's not all fun and games. I have 5 kilns, but I use my baby kiln the most, so it's natural that I change the small kiln's relay the …Read more.

Waterjet glass cut-outs are awesome, and I've used them in several fused glass projects. Here are just a few projects with waterjet cut-outs that I got from my good friend Tracy. Aren't they fabulous, BTW I love my bears. When Tracy makes the cut-outs, she has lots of outlines leftover, here are a few I have in my studio. Here …Read more.

In case you didn't know this month was sunflower season in Colorado and they were everywhere, they are on the side of the road, in the medium and in the fields, fields and fields of sunflowers. Here are just a few, yep you guessed it, in Westcliffe. I can't see sunflowers without smiling. They are so beautiful. To celebrate Sunflower …Read more.

One of my goals this year is to use some of my pretty glass and molds that I've never used before. So, this post is about 4 fused glass pieces I just finished. This first one is a special mold, it's called hi / low, it's low on one side and high on the other. Plus look at this amazing …Read more.

Recently I was able to go to the Farmer's Market in Westcliffe. I like buying from local people. I love going and meeting the wonderful participants at the little market. Last time I met the owners of a Lavendar farm. This visit was very special, I met Ginny from Sak Saum, fighting human trafficking. This is a very important issue …Read more.

I love making fused glass for commercial companies. One of my most loyal customers is a small hotel in California. I've been making soap dishes for them for quite some time. I just finished another order for her. Here they are start to finish; in the kiln for a full fuse, washing, and in the kiln for a slump. Here …

Recently I visited the Sangre De Cristo 3rd Street Gallery in Westcliffe. My good Friend Gina had two paintings in the show (top row). Gina and I have been friends since around 2006. She gave me one of her paintings a while back (bottom row). She's also one of the people who told me about Westcliffe. Here are a few …

Did you know ...This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to discuss. This "Did You Know" is a follow-up to my Woodland Park show.

First the 2023 Mountain Arts Festival was in a different location, by the lake. What a beautiful place!
Here are a few pictures of the artists booths. One of the topics me and my fellow artists discussed is the age of the majority of artists. Next time you go to an art and craft show look at the age of the artist, we're all older.
What's going to happen in 5-10 years when we all die? Will all the art forms die with us? Will young people step up and create real art? I hope so. BTW I really loved the location, and it was a wonderful event. It did rain a bit Saturday but overall, it was pretty nice.
Here is my booth. I really enjoy attending the show. I love talking about glass, it makes me so happy. So many of my customers made the trip to say hi. Additionally, I met some new people and enjoyed sharing my art with them.
You may or may not know, but I do a drawing during each show. The winner gets $25 worth of glass. This is Colleen the winner of the Doherty Craft show. She chose a fused glass photo stand.
How I choose the winner is the Random # generator. Kathy was the winner of the Mountain Arts Festival and she chose tiny, fused glass snaps.
I always buy artwork from my fellow artists. Even when I went to the show in Delta, I bought some little lap quilts. When I went to the Doherty craft show I bought these two beautiful prints from the artist and framed them (thanks Seth for the frames).
During the Mountain Arts Festival I bought the 3 prints from an artist and framed them myself. The Bear was by the same artist, but he framed it. Again, I do my best to practice what I preach and buy from other artists.
I bought this from an art show years ago and am putting it in my Westcliffe home.
As a side note, the majority of the art in my house is special to me. All of the signs on the left I made and framed.
I also made all of these fused glass pieces that are in my home.
I didn't make these pictures, but I love Bev Doolittle and my aunt gave me the pictures and I framed them myself and my uncle gave me the horse picture.
I believe in supporting small businesses. I hope my posts about my shows and my fellow artists encourage you to support small businesses and artists. Please read these signs and know they are accurate. Most importantly, support small businesses and artists.
