Views of Westcliffe

Views of Westcliffe

*I screwed up - sometimes when I have a similar post I duplicate it and use it as a base. I wrote a post about the beauty of Westcliffe but instead of duplicating it I "updated it". Which means this post overwrote by beauty of Westcliffe from April. So, it looks like I have the same post in May & …Read more.

Fused Glass Presents

Fused Glass Presents

In April's DYK I wrote about my love for the special women in my life. For Mother Day I made presents for my Mom and Mother-in-law. Here is the present I made for my mom. It's a Fused Glass flower vase and to make it really special I added a flower sign. BTW I erased it and rewrote it before …Read more.

Fused Glass Flower Canvases and Screenprint

Fused Glass Flower Canvases and Screenprint

A couple months ago I created fused glass signs with flowers I call them my flower canvases, if you don't remember here, they are again. I went a little nuts and made several more fused glass flower canvases. Here are a few of them before I used them. Read more.

Custom Presents for my Cousin

Custom Presents for my Cousin

My cousin is a talented quilter. Here are a few of her quilt blocks and the last one is an actual quilt. My aunts and grandmother use to make quilts. Quilting an amazing art form that I believe is special and beautiful and I wanted a one of her quilts badly for a long time. She was looking at my …Read more.

Presents for my new Grandniece

Presents for my new Grandniece

Last year I made presents for my grandniece Ryan. I screen-printed bibs and a glass sconce. My niece, Kaci, just had a beautiful little girl - Emeri. She's such a cutie so I made her some bibs too. It's a different type of bib, much easier to screen-print on. I also made her a sconce with Emeri's information on it. …Read more.

Fused Glass Flower Displays

Fused Glass Flower Displays

Recently I made several fused glass flower magnets and art pieces for Mother's Day and for shops that showcase my fused glass art. They are beautiful the way they are, but they can be displayed in various ways. The fused glass vases can be added to frames with washi paper as a background or on to chalkboard. Another way to …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to discuss.

I’ve written about Westcliffe many times. This “Did You Know” will hopefully encourage you to come for a visit June 2nd & 3rd.

I’m doing a craft show at the Beckwith Ranch. I’m also going to have some of my glass at the Beckwith Ranch Giftshop.  The art show is Saturday (3 June)

If you come, please find me and I'll give you a free gift (RSVP and I’ll bring a special gift) as well as your normal 15% off.

Here are just a few pictures of the Beckwith Ranch, I just took.

Here are some of the outbuildings at Beckwith.  It's such an interesting place.

Since I’m writing a DYK about the craft show I thought I’d include some of my favorite things to do in or near Westcliffe

Obviously, the town of Westcliffe. Remember to go down the back streets (watch out for town deer) – there is a train museum, train depot, jail, old school, beautiful churches, and so more! Get out and walk around – go into the shops talk to the people if they are local, they are friendly!

---

Of course, the mountains. I love driving around the mountains, both the Sangre's and Wet Mountains. Every time I turn a corner it's another beautiful view.

Of course, the sunrises and sunsets are stunning. Also stay up and look at the stars - they are spectacular.

---

I recommend spending the night. Our favorite is the lamp post, but there is also Dark Skys Suite, and of course the Westcliffe inn.

There aren't as many restaurants as, but Willie's is a wonderful place to eat breakfast, the Dutch pantry has great sandwiches, of course you need to go by the Sugar and Spice Mountain bakery (bring $) and get a muffin.  There are also several great coffee places, one of our favorites is Tumbleweed.

---

The Bluff is the park at the end of town. It's just beautiful. I love getting a muffin and going to the bluff and watching for animals. This is where the observatory is as well.

In the summer there are tons of flowers around the Bluff. I just love flowers, they fascinate me.

---

I love the flowers of Westcliffe. They are everywhere and so spectacular. When you visit Westcliffe, don't forget to literally stop and smell the flowers.

---

Another aspect of Westcliffe that I just love is the animals both domestic (it's free range so drive carefully) and wild including deer, big horn sheep, cows, pronghorn, donkeys, elk, and of course all the birds.

---

Don't forget to take a drive, the views are incredible and there are cabins, school, and of course so much more down the back roads of Westcliffe.

---

If you want to venture out further there is the rainbow trail. It's just so fabulous and we just scratched the surface on our adventure.

The DeWeese Reservoir is great and drive around the lake so you can really see the views of the river and lake and mountains.

If you head south toward Garner and turn toward Red Wing you will find these fantastic ruins. Very cool.

And of course, Bishop's Castle isn't very far away and worth a visit.

---

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself; play cards, read a book, go for a walk.  My husband wanted me to remind you, come and visit but don't move here. LOL!

---

It's so funny, when I started gathering pictures for this "DYK" I relived all these beautiful moments all over again. On one of our last trips, we saw a bald eagle, hummingbirds, blue mountain bird, elk, and so much more. Last thing I want to mention is to layer, it can be sunny in the morning and hailing in the afternoon.
