Benefits to taking Fused Glass Classes

Benefits to taking Fused Glass Classes

For those who follow my newsletters know I'm teaching fused glass classes in my home. I have taught several classes now and I really enjoy teaching. To show my appreciation for people who support me and attend my classes, I want to create a rewards program (i.e., a bonus class) so to speak. I talked to my students and they …Read more.

Happy Thanksgiving - 2022

Happy Thanksgiving - 2022

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving because it's focused on family. We always go visit Dan's family in Delta Colorado. Even though Sky wasn't with us we did have an addition to the family, Ryan. Isn't she adorable? We had a fabulous time, I love spending time with family. I know I say this all the …Read more.

Two Commercial Soap Dish Orders Completed

Two Commercial Soap Dish Orders Completed

Last month I had a commercial order for a small hotel in California. I've been making soap dishes for this hotel for several years. She's always been understanding when I run out of the normal glass, I use for her, so we've changed the colors a few times. This time I made a beautiful blue soap dish. If you look …Read more.

Private Fused Glass Ornament & Tree Class

Private Fused Glass Ornament & Tree Class

I really love giving fused glass classes. Two people who have taken classes with me before asked me if their daughter could take a class with them. I've been a bit concerned about giving a class to children under 18 (glass cuts), but since Jeremy and Julie have taken two classes prior to this class and it was just the …Read more.

It's Relay Changing Time Again

It's Relay Changing Time Again

I've been tracking how often my kilns require their relays change. For my big evenheat kiln it's been a bit over a year and of course it's that time again. It was kind of interesting this time, I fired a schedule I've used numerous times, but it had an error. Luckily for me it was at the end after annealing …Read more.

Fused Glass Garden Stake Class

Fused Glass Garden Stake Class

Normally my fused glass class minimum is 3 students. However, I have made exceptions for example, the class with Merle and Kathy (she wanted to make several things which is difficult with a lot of students) and when Merle wanted 8 different standing trees. So, when my friend Cheryl said she wanted to make several (14 different) garden stakes I …Read more.

2nd Amendment

2nd Amendment

You know one of my favorite things about Art, including fused glass, is it can represent a cause that you believe in. I created a sconce for my mom, I created a gift for my nephew's retirement, and I made the pendants and magnets for "I Believe in You", etc. Now I've created small fused glass dishes with screen-prints to …Read more.

Retirement Gifts for My Nephew

Retirement Gifts for My Nephew

My nephew, Rocky, just retired from the Air Force. He served 22 years just as I did. I'm so proud of him and I wanted to create something to commemorate his retirement. I created custom screen prints and then created this beautiful iridized white sconce. It's kind of perfect timing with Veterans day on November 11th. I added star screen …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

On and off over the last few months I've been playing with a technique that's a mix of techniques I've learned from different glass instructors. Needless to say, I'm in love and of course I went a bit nuts.  I can't wait to hear what y'all think of them.

Here are 6 of my first stretch bowls. I'm sorry I can't show you full pictures because each one is so unique and beautiful. They are all pretty shallow but very cool.

These next 4 bowls are also the stretching technique, but much bigger and deeper. They are so pretty. I sandblasted the bottom left so it's got a satin finish.

These last 3 are stretches as well and relatively shallow. I'm not normally a geometric person, but the top left is pretty cool!

---

I'm not sure if you can see how amazing these 6 bowls are but they are absolutely stunning. They are my frit stretches. Some are deep and big and the one on the right middle is shallow. The green one is an organic and unique shape.

These 3 are also frit bowls, however they are created in a different manner. Additionally, the bottom one I slumped in a different way.  I love them. BTW it was a real struggle deciding which dishes I wanted to keep. I will give you a hint, I kept one of the frit stretches, can you guess which one?

---

So, these 3 pieces are pretty special they are stretches then pressed. The one on the far right is really small but isn't it pretty. I love combining these two techniques!

---

These two are really special, I took two pressed pieces and combined them together for each of the dishes. It's a lot of work, but they are unique. I also slumped them into cool shapes.

---

These two are so cool I combined two stretches together then textured the bottom. They are so very pretty.

These two are kind a of a combination and mixture of different pieces and stretching. I also add texture to the bottom, so they are organic.

---

The above bowls are made strictly from the glass I created. These 9 dishes are actually made with pieces of glass I made. Can you tell which ones are made of the same glass part sheets?  It's so cool to create 4 dishes out of 1 created glass slab. I'm curious which you like the single pieces or ones like this where I'm using parts of the glass I create.

---

I made a lot of dishes, but sometimes I make a piece of glass that's so phenomenal that I keep it flat and make it into art. These 4 pieces of glass are just that. I just love them and chose not to slump them but to keep them flat and put them in a stand.

---

BTW, I didn't just make big pieces, here are some of my small pieces using this technique. The blue ornament is similar to the ones above, but not pressed. The other 4, ornaments & small dishes, are pressed.
