My Beautiful Grandbaby

My Beautiful Grandbaby

I've written several posts about my custom decals and how I love making ones of my beautiful granddaughter. I typically put magnets on the back of the glass and then put them on my refrigerator or anywhere that's metal. I made a clock when she was born and change out my fused glass magnets every once in a while. The …Read more.

In addition to making fused glass art and jewelry I have been selling my extra glass, molds, etc. Here is just a little of the glass scrap that I have been selling. If you are interested let me know. I typically sell them in flat rate boxes, sadly the shipping is more than the glass. The first glass I sold …Read more.

Custom Fused Glass Center Piece

Custom Fused Glass Center Piece

A while back I made this amazing fused glass dish. It truly was a one of a kind dish. It had dichroic, iridized, and so much more. Sharon chose it to sell at Tulip gifts and cards. A month ago she called me and said that a customer bought a fused glass dish of mine and wanted me to make …Read more.

Fun in Westcliffe

Fun in Westcliffe

We went to Westcliffe this month. It's such a beautiful place and God I love Westcliffe. Here are just a few pictures from the property. It's funny the trees weren't changing too much yet but there are still a few flowers. I love sitting on the property, listening to the wind, feeling the sun on my face, smelling the trees, …

Follow-up on Colorado

Follow-up on Colorado

Sometimes I write a post then I change or modify the piece so I like to write a follow-up post.  I wrote a post in July about my Colorado pieces. I added decals to the three other smaller ornaments. The other thing is any decal can be added not just nature, which means they can be customized. I added a …Read more.

Relay Changing Time

Relay Changing Time

It's that time again, changing of the relays. My big evenheat kiln started to heat a bit uneven, normally that means the relay is going bad. My big kiln takes 3 relays. A good friend of mine told me it's best to change them all out at the same time. To put it mildly it's a pain in the butt …Read more.

Airplanes, Balloons, and a Castle

Airplanes, Balloons, and a Castle

I love to travel, we've gone various places in Colorado including Westcliffe, Steam Boat, Estes Park, Breckenridge, to name a few. Well this post is going to focus on Colorado Springs. So this is a pretty long post but I thought it would be best to put it in one post vs three. If you are a regular newsletter subscriber …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

With my arts and craft shows coming up on Nov 13 & 20 and Dec 4-5 I thought this DYK should be about various fused glass pieces I have either recently made or finished. If there is something you’d like me to make for the show’s please let me know.

This first group is a kind of follow-up to a post that I did in August about fused glass gifts and how I made new versions of them.

First I love it when people send me pictures of them with their fused glass artwork. Here is a picture of Ben and Peter who I gave the fused glass heart to celebrate their marriage, what a beautiful couple.  I've never met Peter but Ben is a sweetheart so Peter must be a pretty great guy.

Several of my fused glass drink stirrers were given as gifts during a baby shower to game participants so I decided I’d make some more. I love my fused glass stirrers, they are made of all glass and they make perfect gifts for coffee and tea lovers. Imagine a pretty much and some coffee or tea and a fused glass stirrer. Perfect gift for man or woman.

Additionally several of my fused glass wine stoppers were given as gifts during the same baby shower. Therefore, I made a couple more of them. As I say, everything looks better with glass. My wine stoppers are beautiful.

Another gift  was a pocket cross. I love my fused glass pocket crosses. These 3 are very similar and all beautiful. They are iridized ant the picture doesn't do them them justice.

This next group are various examples of fused glass pieces

I've made for Tulip Gifts and Cards.

I love my fused glass photo stands. I have kept several and I've given them as gifts. They are a bit of a pain to make, but they are worth it.

I also made these pretty fused glass dishes. Three of them have texture on the bottom. The one in the upper right hand corner is a bit bigger and this picture doesn't do it justice.

This next group are updates to some of the things I made at AAE Glass

During class, we didn't slump our pieces so I slumped (shaped) two and I added a hanger to one so it's finished. I am thinking about adding a

These are my screen prints from class. I slumped the tree. I like it because it can be a trinket dish or put in a simple stand. The bottom one I wanted to hang, so I decided on a frame I got when I was in Japan and have been holding on to it. I love them both.

A reconstruction piece, I slumped into a simple dish. It doesn't have much of a bend but I think it looks great.

This is a reaction carving piece. This was a tough choice. Do I slump it or leave it in a stand as art sculpture. I decided to slump it and I'm so glad I did. it's outstanding, because with it slumped it can be a dish or I can put it in a stand. It's just so versatile.

Even though my big kiln and medium kiln are busy with my production/commercial orders, I still use my little kiln for various things fun items.  One of my favorite of course is fused glass jewelry. Here are a few pendants that I’ve made recently. There are several techniques.

I'm sure you are thinking, wow Karen I'm shocked you didn't make any snaps. All I have to say to that, hi my name is Karen and I'm addicted to fused glass snaps. here are just a few of the ones I'm completed.

This next group is fused glass items that don't fit into other categories. But they are so great I didn't want to leave them out.

One of the challenges with some findings is when there is a bezel which means that the fused glass cabochon needs to be the right size to fit. Therefore, while I was making my wine stoppers one of the cabochons was too small so I used it for a fused glass eye glass holder. Normally when I have a bezel I’m trying to fit I don’t typically make a new cabochon I just try the one I make and see if they fit. If it’s a close fit I may grind them a bit and then fire polish. I love these because I’m constantly misplacing them.

I have a wide selection of fused glass eyeglass holders if you would like to see them.

I love fused glass magnets I have them all over my house and I even have them at work. they just make me smile.

I have several magnets, so if you would like to see them please let me know.

These are 3 fused glass poker guards I created. The cool thing about them is they can also be used for pocket charms.

I have myriad of poker guards so if you would like to see them please let me know.
