My Amazing Daughter, Sky

My Amazing Daughter, Sky

As I mentioned Sky just graduated UCCS, Magna Cum Laude in English and Philosophy. We are so very proud of her! She didn't have an actual graduation because of COVID, but we did take a few pictures with her diploma! This month Sky went off to Law School. She has her own apartment and is completely on her own. Yesterday …Read more.

Fused Glass Home Decor

Fused Glass Home Decor

I love making fused glass and I make various pieces when there is room in my kilns. I thought I'd show you some of the pieces I've made recently but don't really fit in with other of my posts. Here are two photo stands that I made custom. Below are some dishes I've made recently, I just love this technique. …Read more.

Fun in Breckenridge, CO

Fun in Breckenridge, CO

We went to Breckenridge again recently. We’ve been going there for over 10 years, however it’s getting so busy it’s not as fun for us as it used to be.  That being said we had a good time. We went in the hot tub every night. One day we went ATVing (half day). This is the first time we were …Read more.

Fused Glass Colorado

Fused Glass Colorado

I’ve mentioned Tracy before and I asked her to cut me out some Colorado symbols. I makes it so much easier having her cut them than me with a tile saw.  Anyway, here are a couple of them that I made into ornaments. One has a blue background, one has a clear background with an iridized “C”, and on one …Read more.

Custom Textured Dishes

Custom Textured Dishes

I had a fun order recently for fused glass textured dishes. I love adding texture to dishes it makes clear much more interesting and fun. They wanted 4 rectangle and 4 round clear dishes with a spiral texture. Aren’t they awesome? I love the champagne bubbles. I also 4 blue rectangle and round dishes. But they are also a unique …Read more.

Uranium Glass

Uranium Glass

Recently I saw an article about uranium glass that glows under florescent light. I found it fascinating and I read up on it; here is some of the info I learned. Uranium glass is glass which has had uranium, usually in oxide diuranate form, added to a glass mix before melting for coloration. Uranium glass was once made into tableware …Read more.

Commercial and Production Fused Glass

Commercial and Production Fused Glass

I’ve mentioned several times about commercial or production fused glass orders that I make for either hotels or restaurants. Over the last few months I’ve had several repeat orders. Here are a few. This one was for a hotel in California – soap dishes. Her free gift was also a soap dish in blue vs green (middle picture). I also …Read more.

Custom Fused Glass Feather

Custom Fused Glass Feather

One of my customers asked me if I could make a custom fused glass feather pendant to match a jacket (left picture), I said yes of course. I use a casting mold to make my feather pendants (right picture). I used COE 90 glass for one and COE 96 glass for the other. I had two other fused glass feather …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

This month's DYK is a bit different, it's about my concrete textured/slumping molds and how they can be used. Normally when I talk about slumping/texture molds it’s about how to use them regarding fusing glass. However, I have a lot of molds and I wanted to find other things to do with them. They are made out of a concrete mixture, so they hold up pretty good outside. They are all handmade so they aren’t perfect, but that’s why I like them. They were made by a production glass artist friend of mine (Paul) who retired.  If you are in Colorado Springs and want to to buy some please contact me (elegantfusedglass@gmail.com). I’d prefer not to ship because they are really heavy

---

Here are just a few pieces of glass I’ve textured and made into dishes. I use papyrus paper on them because they really hold the heat

---

Here are some photos of the molds/textures in my husband’s warehouse. As you can see I have hundreds of molds/textures. My good friend Jax came over an picked some up for her garden. As you can see she got quite a haul but it didn’t dent my supply.

Here are other molds I have, as you can see I have a lot of both textures and slumping molds.

---

We took them over to her amazing garden and laid them out. It’s funny how stark white they are in her garden. Anyway Jax sprayed and painted most, but she left one blank.

We were calling them stepping stones but when her husband stepped on two of them they broke so now we’re calling them garden stones because I don’t want anyone to be upset if they step on one and it breaks.

Jax is quite an artist; first with her garden (this is only a small portion) and then she welded these amazing structures. I didn’t show her house but she does such a myriad of artwork mediums than I’ve ever seen one person do. She’s truly an artist and to know she has my artwork mixed with hers is such a complement. I’m so blessed to have her as my friend

---

As far as the molds I’ve used them for slumping dozens of dishes I just take it low and I make sure the molds and glass are even (remember these are all handmade molds).

They are really great for my production work since I make several of them at a time

I thought I'd show you some of the textured molds I have; again perfect for glass or garden stones

I have textured molds in various sizes.

I have round and square.

What a blast I had, I hope they had fun too!

They can also  be cut with a tile saw if you have a small kiln.  I cut these because I had an order and I wanted to fit 2 specific ones in my kiln for 2 dishes.

---

A few months back I invited Lela over to get some textures/molds and we had a bit of fun. Again Lela is very talented and creative.

She made a mosaic out of this one.

I made a garden stone out of this one and put it in a bald spot in my yard. I added some tumbled bottle glass and I think it looks pretty cool.

This is one of my favorites I took one of the molds and sprayed it with textured paint. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it maybe put little air plants or glass or… the possibilities are endless

---

Next I’m going to invite Tracy and Coral over. The sky’s the limit with these creative women.

Again if you’d like to buy a few of these molds/textures whether for fusing or other artwork please let me know (elegantfusedglass@gmail.com).
