Tulip's

Tulip's

I've written about Tulip's in Denver several times. I'm very lucky that they have some of my fused glass in their shop. It's changed hands a few times and the new owners came by to checkout my studio and to drop off some pieces and to pick up new pieces. Anyway, I've also talked about Tracy, she has a laser …Read more.

June in Westcliffe

June in Westcliffe

We went to Westcliffe again this month. I love summer in Westcliffe. The pictures below are all from the Bluff. Such pretty flowers. I may need to try to make the red and blue ones in glass. When we're in Westcliffe we do a lot of driving, as we drive around I constantly had Dan stop so I can take …Read more.

Bath Bombs with my Baby

Bath Bombs with my Baby

Sky and I made candles recently so we decided to make some bath bombs as well. Here are some of the supplies and some of our finished pieces. It was fun but it's also pretty messy! I just wish I had more citric acid so we could make more. Of course I try to involve my glass in all that …Read more.

Fused Glass Bees

Fused Glass Bees

I've always loved honey bees, so I made some fused glass honey bees. They are perfect for so many things. Here are some of my fused glass bees. Some bees are on stems and two are on magnets. Now how to display them. Well they are small and can go anywhere. Here are my fused glass flower vases and as …Read more.

My Baby Girl

My Baby Girl

So May and June were very big months for my daughter and our family. First Sky finished her bachelor's degree at UCCS here in Colorado Springs. It's quite an accomplishment especially with the pandemic going on for the last year and a half. Sadly she didn't get a real graduation, but she took it well. Second she was accepted at …Read more.

Fused Glass Textured Production Dishes

Fused Glass Textured Production Dishes

This month I received commercial production order. It was a fun one but lots of work. First I cut out squares and then I cut circles. I cut over 200 circles and only broke 2, that's crazy good!! Then I washed them then, painted them, full fused them, then slumped them. I really liked them and they were fun to …Read more.

Bottle Candles

Bottle Candles

In March or April I made a lot of glass bottles vases, I made so many that I decided to make some into candles.  Today my daughter Sky and I made some candles. Here are some of the glass bottle candles I made.  I made the candles a little dark so the decals don’t show up as well.  Which is …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

This month I held a fused glass demonstration, home show, and simple classes for international students from UCCS in my home studio. It's kind of an interesting story. My coworker, Steve, does fun activities with international students on a regular basis.  He told me that he met someone once that lived in the US for years but no one really got to know them and made them feel welcome. He said some international students don't have many friends.

I have to tell you that really broke my heart. They are all wonderful people and friendly, I just can't imagine Americans not seeing their kindness and friendliness. Anyway, below are some of the glass activities we did together.

Because it was more about having fun with the students I only had 2 tables set up.

I also had some fused glass jewelry out, but it was difficult not having more out. It was funny I talked about various pieces so they could see what types of jewelry we could make.

---

Here are my glass rooms, I know the pictures are small, but there are a lot of pictures I want to include.

---

So my plan was to just make simple pendants by layering glass. However, I love glass so when the ladies said can we smooth this piece out, I'm like sure lets use the flatlap. And when a young man asked I like this piece for a decal, what do you think? I'm like it's nice, but it would be better if we cut off the edges let's use the saw.

I never make it easier on myself!

This is me explaining different things they can use to make their glass pendants. The other picture is one of the guys making a fused glass key chain!

---

One of the things I wanted to do is show the students how to pull vitrigraph. However, it was a small pot and it finished right after they got there. Maybe next time I'll start the pot later.

---

One of the projects I had for them was adding decals to glass. I hope think they liked it! You can see there were lots of choices including mica and dichroic slide.

---

She made a beautiful Aspen Magnet. She really took the time and it turned out great!

---

In these pictures you can see 2 young ladies who were really into creating beautiful glass. They both made two pieces of jewelry. They also both got to grind using my flatlap. It was so much fun working with them.

---

She isn't just beautiful she's also very smart!  She was so precise and knew exactly what she wanted to make. She was a joy to work with.

What a blast I had, I hope they had fun too!

Didn't they do a magnificent job!  BTW one of the pieces we made is a guitar pick. I've always wanted to make one and it was fun making it!

This is Steve and Beth Ann they are amazing people and what they do for these students is awe inspiring. They don't just do group things with the students, Steve and Beth Ann have them over to their house.

Remember just because someone doesn't look like you doesn't mean they aren't worth your time. I had the best time, I loved every minute I spent with these amazing young people.
