I hope y'all are having a good September, it's definitely been an interesting one. I have some new to report: I've heard from both Rampart and Liberty High School and sadly they have both canceled their craft shows for November. I've had a couple of home shows this year and will probably do two in November. I wanted to do one in Oct but I don't just don't see a free weekend. In my Oct Newsletter I'll do a DYK on all the perks and benefits of coming to my home show. If there is something you want me to show off or give away as a prize or do as a mini class please email me.

Free Fused GlassNormally when I have a home show I give a free gift to those who visit me. I've decided to give a free fused glass gift to any order. The gift varies based on what is purchased. I love glass and I love sharing it with my customers. That being said it's not just for those who come to my home shows. The stirrer was given to someone who ordered from my artfire site. So I hope you take the opportunity to my a beautiful glass art piece and get a small fused glass item for yourself. You can order from Artfire, my Elegant Fused glass site, or my newsletters or posts. Or you can email me.

I've taken several Glass Mosaic classes with Cathy. This one was interesting because it was a zoom class. I've taken a few fused glass zoom classes. I just love the interaction with other glass artists. Here are my mosaic aspen leaves. I really like them. In addition to doing the mosaic I did a fused glass piece. The picture on …Read more.

I finished several Fused glass pendants this month. There are a myriad of techniques including: stringer, tumbled, screen print, etched, and dichroic pendants. To check out the YouTube Video of me showing off my fused glass jewelry click on this link. The pendants below are a bit larger so for some of them I did double bails. I've never really …Read more. Since next month is Halloween, I thought I'd do a post about some fun fused glass for Halloween. Here are two of my fused glass night lights. The one of the left is a decal and frit and the one on the right is murrine (I love the Halloween themed murrine), frit, & shaped glass. Here is another night light … Read more.

A few months ago I made some beautiful fused glass flower scenes. I made some into magnets. I put two of them onto cards and gave them to my mom and mother-in-law for mother's day. Recently I gave three away as gifts for three special ladies who weren't feeling well. Aren't they beautiful. They make perfect gifts. Anyway, in addition …Read more.

One of my New Years resolutions was to use more of the glass I have on hand. So in this post I want to show you one of my favorite ways to use small pieces of glass. I made mini fused glass bowls. First I prepare my casting mold and add the glass. Below is the setup in the kiln. …Read more.

It's that time again. I never get tired of visiting Westcliffe and I love writing about it and showing off our activities. As I've mentioned we always try to do something new. This month's is no different. First we did our normal i.e., the best bakery in the world and the bluff park. I so love the park, we go …Read more.

Recently I had a sale on my Artfire account, a fused glass Lady in the Woods sculpture. Normally on my sculpture pieces whether it's the Tree of Life, Green Man or Lady in the woods, I make them to order. Ironically the examples are all shades of green but they can be made in any color. Sadly I didn't have …Read more.

One of my cousins came to Colorado Springs this month. I haven't seen her since I was 11 or 12. A little background, as a child when we went to Oklahoma my Aunt Pauline and Cousin Carol Jean took us in and helped us a great deal. Kualine is Carol Jean's daughter. I don't remember much but I remember unconditional …Read more.

Did you know ...This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include. Obviously if you receive my Fused Glass newsletters you know I love creating glass. When I make a piece of glass art sometimes I know what it's going to be Jewelry, dish, but sometimes I'll make a piece and I don't want to make it a dish. I want it to be an art piece. But sometimes I'll make an art piece and not know how to display it. Recently I've been making several fused glass art pieces so I've been working on how to display them.
Some are easy and just fit into any store bought displays. These displays are found in pretty much any store. For the most part when I display my art glass in a stand I include the stand with the glass. There are several reasons to use store bought ones are they can hold thick pieces, thin pieces, large or small.
Some of my fused glass pieces are easy because I shape them to be self standing. Whether it's a thick piece, sconce or a wave shape. I love these types of glass art, because they can go anywhere.
In addition to my waves and sconces I have what I like to think of as my bent pieces. I make vases, photo stands/displays, clocks, etc. The pictures onthe Left are my photo stands.
The pieces to the right are my "bent" pieces. One is a vase and the other is pictures of my beautiful granddaughter.
This self standing piece is really unique. my intent is to make a 3rd (6th) arm. I love my grand-baby and can't have enough pictures of her around the house.
I also buy stands or displays from glass art stores. They come in various shapes and sizes. Here are just a couple of options. These stands are mass produced and add a medium amount to the cost of my glass. I do struggle getting them in the right size.
I've also bought stands from other artists that are pre-made, but are beautiful. This first set I bought from Jodi and I just love them. They are reasonably priced and fit my flat glass panels perfectly. I love how they really add to my fused glass. There''s small bases and large bases. There's several colors and they hold square, rectangle, circles and even hearts. One negative is the glass can't be over 6mm thick. Another problem only with all of these types of stands is I like them so much I have difficulty with selling them so I keep them for my glass. Here are just a couple of my pieces that I've put into these great stands.
I've also bought these great aluminum stands from Roz. I love these because some of them you can adjust to fit the glass piece. I also like that they can be painted to fit the Fused Glass piece or left alone. Some are so beautiful they enhance my simple glass pieces to be spectacular.
I also bought these great ceramic stands that I stain. I've only done the two but I love them. The only problem is the glass has to be round and a specific size but I do like them. They do raise the price a bit.
Sadly 90% of the time I have a bad habit of making a piece of glass and not even thinking about will it fit into a stand. Here are a couple amazing pieces that I made and I love so much I had stands made specifically for them. The problem with having displays made specifically for my glass makes the price of the piece more expensive.
When I took my class from Laurie I learned to make hangers for my flowers and now I've just been going crazy making all kinds of hangers for flowers, panels, etc. I also hang pocket vases with chain.
Years ago I took a class from Tanya and we made these beautiful towers and she taught us this display technique. This is the one I made in class and looks beautifully in my sitting room.
I also frame some of my glass. I like this one because the background is glass too. Some are on mat board. This technique is one I want to expand on.
Speaking of handmade stands. Because I'm making so many silk screened fused glass pieces I wanted to make some stands for them. They are versatile and can hold a pretty big piece or on the smaller size. They can hand rectangle, square, etc. I also like that I can make it in any color.
With myriad of stands you'd think I'd have a display in mind for everything I create. But, NO, I have so many pieces I just haven't decided what to do with them. Some are difficult because of the shape, or I don't want to see the display behind the piece, or that it's too thick, or it's such a unique piece I just simply can't decide. Please let me know what your favorite type of is, elegantfusedglass@gmail.com.
