I hope y'all are staying safe and I hope you enjoy my Newsletter for May 2020.

This is Sable, she likes to be in with me when I'm doing my glass. This day I didn't have any cleared flat space open for her so she got up on my table and laid on my samples. It's difficult to be upset with her because she's such a great cat.

Fused Glass Art

In addition to the fused glass snaps, ornaments, night lights, candle shields, etc., I made this month I also made a variety of other fused glass pieces that I want to show off. First up is this awesome sconce. When I was doing the freeze and fuse last month I made some little fish and some shells. So I fused …Read more.

Fused Glass Crackle

Fused Glass Crackle

One of my favorite fused glass techniques is crackle. I learned it from the great Bob Leatherbarrow. If you look in the links below I've listed some of the past posts I've written about my classes with Bob. Well I've made some small pieces just to have a bit of fun. These first small dishes are beautiful, what a great …Read more.

Fused Glass Ornament & Sun-catcher

Fused Glass Ornament & Sun-catcher

Yes, I know it's May but this post is to show how long it takes me to finish some of my fused glass pieces. I'll make a piece but I won't finish it. Here are some ornaments. I love making stars and tree ornaments. As you can see I have at least 3 different types of fused glass stars. I …Read more.

Fused Glass Stringer Art

Fused Glass Stringer Art

A glass stringer is a straight tiny (1mm or 2mm) rods. I’ve never really used them before, because I prefer organic shapes and sizes of vitrigraph. However, I just watched a class (curious mondo) on how to use stringers and I must say I was inspired. I pulled out some stringers I had and wow I had a lot (mostly …Read more.

Westcliffe, Colorado

Westcliffe, Colorado

So we closed on our land in Westcliffe. It was amazing. We went to Westcliffe and set in lawn chairs and just listened to the wind and looked at the mountains. It was so serine, I've never felt such peace. We walked the land and found the boundaries. I even saw 3 deer scampering off. We saw elk on the …Read more.

Fused Glass Mother's Day Cards

Fused Glass Mother's Day Cards

I made some beautiful fused glass millefiori / murine cabochons recently and made them into magnets and then Mother's Day cards. This one was for my mom. I like the little heart murine. Sadly my penmanship is not pretty. This one was for my mother-in-law. See the little butterfly. It's a really special piece. I also made a snap out …Read more.

Fused Glass Candle Shield & Night Lights

Fused Glass Candle Shield & Night Lights

I love making fused glass candle shields and night lights. Here are four of my recent candle shields. They are fun because they are small and can be made from every technique. The three on the left are made with cut glass, casts, confetti, and frit. I make my candle shields the same way I make my fused glass night …Read more.

Fused Glass Art

Another technique I talked about briefly last month in my Newsletter was my Frit mix pieces. My turtle and sea horse turned out beautifully so I made a few more. The first time I fired the bear, deer, and wolf they didn’t fire quite right so I added some more glass and refired them. I really love them, in fact …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

For this month's DYK I'd like to focus on some of my fused glass accessory pieces I've finished. Sometimes that's the hardest part for me. I love creating the glass but I struggle finishing my pieces. Anyway, during the shut down I was able to finish them.

---

First the easy ones. Some fused glass pieces are what they are and don't need findings. My poker guards are pretty big and don't need any bails. The picture on the left are screen melts, puddles, the green one is bottle glass.

I also made some fused glass poker guards with decals and enclosures. I love decals.  Of course they don't have to be poker guards, I can make them into pendants or key chains as well.

I also made fused glass hearts. The top picture is the top and the bottom picture is the back. The cool thing about poker guards is I can also add decals to them. These can be poker guards or pocket hearts.

---

Another fused glass item that I love making and do not require a finding is pocket crosses. I love pocket crosses, they have such a special meaning. As you may remember I made one for each of my family members.

---

I always say everything looks better with glass. I have these amazing spa bars and nail files from the Czech Republic so I put some fused glass on them. This first group are the spa bars, they are for your feet. These happen to be all decals. I like the idea of the flowers, they make such great gifts.

Here are some of my glass nail files. The nail files from Czech are so much better than other glass nail files.

---

I also added glass to some little spoons. These would be great for coffee or tea. Not for babies. I'd also hand wash.

---

I have all types of hair accessories but for now I just added some special glass pieces to some bobby pins. I just love dragonflies.

---

I also used a dragon for a key chain and made a knife and a letter opener. I don't have many of each of these so it takes the perfect glass for me to use the finding.

---

I have made several wine stoppers but I found this base and thought this piece of glass was perfect for the base. What do you think?

---

I also created three belt buckles. I think they are awesome. I don't wear belts very often but these are ones I'd wear.

---

I also made one eyeglass holder. I just love these and this is my faux druzy.   With findings like these  have to be the exact size so it's a little more difficult to make.

---

These are some of my favor pieces I finished. They are garden stakes. Not only do they have pretty fused glass on the front and added a glass cabochon to the back of the piece so it's pretty both sides.

---

These are just a few of the fused glass pieces I finished. Is there anything you would like to see me make? If so please email me elegantfusedglass@gmail.com. I love to make fused glass, it doesn't matter what.

BTW this is an Ikebana vase. Isn't it fantastic?
