I'm so sorry my newsletter is late this month. Normally I send it out the last day of the month but I was TDY and didn't have a chance to finish it until now. I'll do better for February.

---

I've been asked by some of my Colorado Springs customers to have a home show.

Therefore I'll be having a home show probably in March (1st or 2nd weekend).

I'll still do the 15% off anything you buy and I might even have a prize for anyone who comes by.

Let me know what you'd like to see, here are pictures from previous home shows. I'll also show my studio off and answer any questions you have. Email me if you'd like to attend: elegantfusedglass@gmail.com

Another Trip to Rhode Island

Another Trip to Rhode Island

I had another business trip to Rhode Island this January. I really enjoy Newport and the Naval War College is so fascinating. Of course I worked 10-12 hr shifts so I didn't have anytime to write my newsletter or anything glass related. In fact I took these 2 pictures on my last day driving off the base. My last day …Read more.

I love to travel, not just overseas but here in Colorado as well. Last year my husband and I made a commitment to spend more time together. We had a blast last year, so we made the same commitment this year. Our first trip of the year was to Steamboat Springs here in Colorado. It’s my first time going to …Read more.

Steamboat Springs (2 of 2)

Steamboat Springs (2 of 2)

In my last blog I wrote about our trip to Steamboat Springs. How we went to the hot springs and snowmobiling. So much fun. We also took the gondola up to the top of the ski runs (no I don’t ski anymore). Something I didn’t know about Steamboat is it has sent more athletes to the Winter Olympics than any …Read more.

Kiln Repair

Kiln Repair

Something people may not be aware of unless you are a glass artist is kiln repair. To get it right This is from JenKen's site, "Kiln relays are found in the kiln’s control box and are responsible for switching the power to the kiln’s elements on and off." Each of my kilns are different and require a different type of …Read more.

Fused Glass Buddha

Fused Glass Buddha

I’ve blogged about my fused glass “Buddha’s” (Kwan Yin) several times, because I like them so much. I make my Buddha's with ceramic molds by Laurie Spray. She's an amazing artist and I've blogged about her several times as well. In addition to the Buddha molds, Laurie's made several of my favorite molds. When I took a class from Laurie …Read more.

Fused Glass Sea Green Bowls

Fused Glass Sea Green Bowls

I love creating commercial / production fused glass art. One of the places I create functional glass for is a wonderful restaurant in Aspen. The head chef always challenges me with new requests. I’ve made several dishes for him including Caviar dishes, platters, and bowls. I’ve been working on a new set of 36 bowls for him over the last …Read more.

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

Happy New Year 2020 - It's difficult to believe not only is it the end of the year but the beginning of a new decade. Every year I do a review of my glass activities I accomplishments during the previous year. I also write about what I want to accomplish during the new year.

---

For 2019 my list of things to do included:

• Updating my sites (Etsy, Artfire, and website (elegantfusedglassbykaren.com)

Sadly I did not do this at all!

• Continue to use my molds each month. I’m also adding products – I have so many products that I’ve purchased but haven’t really used so I want to do a product a month.

I did it pretty good on this one, I just wasn't as consistent as I'd like.

•  Continue writing my blogs and newsletters.

I still love my blogs and newsletters, I've added other activities that aren't glass related, but It's fun writing about my adventures i.e., cooking classes, travel, etc.,.

• Focus on using glass I have — include broken glass pieces and finishing pieces I started.

I've done pretty good with this one but I still have a ways to go.

• Take 2 to 3 glass classes in person.

I so accomplished this one: Laurie, Tonya, and Miriam! I so love taking in person glass classes!

Over all I did pretty good this year, especially since I also went to Prague and a glass factory!!

---

For 2020 I want to do the following glass related activities (some of them monthly*):

• Redo my website - this is critical. Not only do I want to add more glass, I want to change the host.

• I love molds and I want to use a new mold every month, wait until you see some of my molds!

• Clean my studio, I've already started this activity. It's looking good but I still have a lot to do.

• Use the products I buy

• Make glass projects using tutorials I've purchased

• Continue to make glass YouTube videos (I've actually made a few this past year)

• Continue to use the glass I have on hand with work and family.

• Take 2-3 in person glass classes (right now I have Nathan, Margurite, and hopefully Craig

Wish me luck, I'm so looking forward to this year!!
