A few months a go I wrote a blog about my drop vases. I really enjoy this technique. They are so pretty and interesting to make. I made them out of several techniques including casting, frit, crackle, and screen melt.  I also put a flat bottom on most of them just so they don’t wobble. If you would like to see more of my fused glass work please refer to my website Elegant Fused Glass by Karen. If you get a chance, check out all my...

Photo’s of My Fused Glass to get into Shows

In order to do well in the art community you have to get into shows. The best shows are typically juried.  To get into those shows you have to have great photographs. The jury looks at the pictures to decide what handmade items are the best and allowed into the show. Now I have a little station in my “show room” to take pictures for my artwork for my websites, but my hand tends to shake and the pictures are a little blurry so not all that great. In fact, I put a...

Fused Glass – Mold of the month

Fused Glass – Mold of the month

Posted by on Jun 22, 2016 in Art, Blog, fused glass | 0 comments

Before I got really crazy busy I was writing one blog a month about a new mold each month.  I know it’s been a while but I have some cool molds so I thought I’d start writing my mold of the month again.  This is a cool mold it’s a drop and drape combined. I like it for several reasons. First, I really like fused glass drops and drapes. The only problem with it is I have a depth perception issue and I cant tell if the bottom piece is exactly centered....

A few years ago I took a class and learned how to create fused glass drop vases. I really enjoyed the class and made 2 beautiful vases. Problem is when I got home I made a couple but broke them when I cut the rim off. So I bought an ebook and still broke them. So last month when I took my class from Amanda and Lance I found out what I was doing wrong. So when I got home from my class I made some glass ingots to make some drop vases....

So I’ve been blogging about my trip to New York including Corning, Vitrix, my present from CMOG, Niagra Falls, etc. This blog will be about my fused glass class with Amanda and Lance Taylor at Oatka Studios in Batavia, New York. First I’ve never seen a studio so packed full of coldworking equipment. Both Amanda and Lance were great and I learned a lot from both of them. This class was focused on how to create deep vessels with fused glass. Typically really deep...

Fused Glass – Rolled up!

Fused Glass – Rolled up!

In some of my past blogs I have written about a couple of classes I’ve taken. One of my more recent classes was with Patty Gray where we learned to use her molds effectively. One of the pieces I made I didn’t care for a whole lot.  The glass I used only has the color on one side so when it fused you could see the edges of the glass, which was white. This wouldn’t bother most people, but I just didn’t care for it.  Here is what it looked like when I...

Every month I’ve been writing blogs about my myriad of fused glass molds. Recently I watch a video on how to use a mold that connects a fused glass drop vase to a base. I like fused glass drop vases and have tried several. Some I’ve cut the rim off and I love the fused glass vases without the rim but out of the 7 I’ve created I broke all but two. I like the rim on as...

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I sure did. I was even able to spend some time in my studio! Wow do I have a few specials fused glass pieces to show you for my December fresh out of the kiln. This fused glass dish is strictly an art piece and is a combination of several techniques. The crystal edges add an elegance that is stunning to the eye and to the touch. But what you can’t see in the...
