Fused Glass and Concrete

Everything I do involves glass. Recently I took two webinars about concrete jewelry (Curious Mondo). They actually used different concrete. One is more concrete looking grey speckled and one is white. Of course when I use another media it all revolves around how I can use it with glass. The first 4 I made had a bit more water than I should have included, but for the most part they turned out ok. As you can see I added colorant to two of them. I like both the color and the...

Last year I took a class with Laurie Spray on cane’s and vitrigraph. I’ve used some of the blue cane in several pieces but I wanted to use some of the orange cane I made in actual fused glass pieces. I made 3 small dishes. each one is very beautiful.         I also made some pieces for jewelry.           I really like cane and hopefully by March I’ll have my kiln set up and...

So not only did my old friends come by I met some new ones as well. Julie came in wanting to match the teal in her shirt with a pendant. Within 2 minutes we found 2 fused glass pendants, 1 teal which matched her shirt perfectly and a red one went well as well.           Julie said she likes to match her jewelry with her clothes and asked if she sent me a shirt if I could match it and of course the answer is yes. I love doing custom work. In fact...

Well this past weekend I participated in the Holly Berry Arts Festival at the Rock ledge ranch in Manitou Springs. It’s a fabulous location and I just love showing my fused glass there.  Anyway, I had several people sign up for my fused glass newsletter and enter my drawing.             The Winner was Janet! During my August show, one of my long time customers had a request. She wanted some of my fused glass earrings changed from posts and dangles to clip-on earrings.  So I did it. I based it on whether the earrings were posts or dangles. If they were posts I put them on a finding that had a pad. If they were dangles I put them on a clip-on finding that was made for dangles. So about 1/2 were dangles and 1/2 were posts, now she has fused glass earrings that she can wear.  ...

July’s fused glass newsletter focuses on holiday fused glass in preparation for my glass shows. My first show is in August in Woodland Park.  If there is something you’d like me to bring to my Shows or to put on my websites please let me know. So for this fused glass blog I thought I’d show off some more of my new fused glass holiday castings. The question is are they pendants or ornaments?  The answer is whichever you want! I think these are so awesome...

Fused Glass Prism Jewelry – Tanya / AAE Glass

For June I have been focusing my fused glass blogs on videos Tanya Veit teaches on her AAE Glass website in her Education center. I’ve blogged about several techniques including: the Glass Glo brick plate, Mosaic tile plate, the fused glass quilt plate, and several jewelry techniques. This is a pretty interesting technique. It’s layering dichroic and clear glass and it ends up very transparent. The key thing is she copper leafed the back of the pendants. The copper...

I’ve blogged about several techniques including: the Glass Glo brick plate, Mosaic tile plate, the fused glass quilt plate, and several jewelry techniques. I also blogged about my class with Alice and that we added gold to our landscapes. The first time I used gold in my fused glass was with one of Tanya’s techniques. I think it was the...

For June I have been focusing my fused glass blogs on videos Tanya Veit teaches on her AAE Glass website in her Education center. I’ve blogged about several techniques including: the Glass Glo brick plate, Mosiac tile plate, the fused glass quilt plate, and two jewelry techniques. I thought I’d show a couple different jewelry techniques Tanya has in her education center. The first one is groovy Tie dye pendants. This is similar to Picasso. I kept it simple but I could...

For June I have been focusing my fused glass blogs on videos Tanya Veit teaches on her AAE Glass website in her Education center.  So far I’ve covered several plates; the Glass Glo brick plate, Mosiac tile plate, and the fused glass quilt plate. Fused Glass Mosaic Tiles is another of Tanya’s techniques she has on her fused glass website. I’ve never really done mosaics but I like this one.  Tanya included 2 fused glass mosaic techniques in the one video. First I made two sets of mosaic using light blue and a rose colored glass. In reality they could stand on their own.           But instead I cut them into squares and put together a new piece.  I love it. So pretty but it does...

Drilling Fused glass pendants

Drilling Fused glass pendants

Posted by on Jun 5, 2017 in accessories, Art, Blog, custom, fused glass, handmade, Jewelry, Pendant | 0 comments

I love making fused glass jewelry. Typically I glue bails on my pendants but some are either transparent or are beautiful on both sides.  But I tend to break a few so I wait until I have several to drill. These 2 are casted fused glass donuts, however after coldworking I fused them again but it was a bit high temp and the holes closed so I just drilled them out a bit. When I refired them I lowered the temp and they are beautiful.           Here are...

As I mentioned this month I’m going to focus my blogs on fused glass webinars (Recycled Glass) by Jodi McRaney Rusho from Glass with a Past (on Curious Mondo).  I just love these webinars both the format with curious mondo and Jodi’s classes. If you get a chance to buy 1 or 2 (or more) they are well worth it.   In both the basic and the advance webinars Jodi touched on recycled fused glass jewelry and then she did an entire webinar on recycled glass...
