June Fresh From the Kiln – Fused Glass Bolo Ties
A few months ago, I was reading an article (Goldstone Ladies’ Bolo tie) in Lapidary Journal Jewelry Art by the great Lexi Erickson. * For those who follow my blog you know that I’ve taken a few Metalsmithing classes from Lexi and watched all of her videos – needless to say Lexi is an extraordinary metalsmith artist. Since Lexi is an amazing metalsmith she handcrafted the bezel slide and the aglets.
As the title of the article states the bolo tie Lexi created is a woman’s bolo tie. For those of you who don’t know a bolo tie (i.e., bola tie or shoestring necktie) is a type of necktie with a piece of cord or braided leather with decorative metal tips – aglets (aiguillettes) – secured with an ornamental clasp or slide.
I created two fused glass bolo ties and both can be worn my a woman or a man. The first fused glass bolo is blue with stone like pebbles inside with brown faux leather and silver aglets and the second is a mixture of vanilla, blue, and brown with black faux leather and silver aglets. The great thing about bolo ties are they are functional and stylish for either men or women. Another wonderful thing about bolo ties is if you like a pendant on one of my sites i.e., elegant fused glass, fused elegant, etsy, or artfire that is at least 1 inch around can be changed into a bolo. That being said a fused glass bolo tie does not have to be round or square it just needs to cover the slide which is about 3/4 inch square. If you would like a bolo tie please email (firstname.lastname@example.org) me.
I look forward to your comments.
Keeping my kiln warm,
