Fused Glass with Mica

I’ve blogged about Mica before and even wrote a DYK about it. I love mica, it’s a mineral and actually comes in a rock form but most people think of it as a powder. Mica is used in cosmetics and electrical components. For these pieces I used mica (gold, copper, silver, pearl, and rose gold) I got from Jodi (glass with a past). The first picture is my little heart mica’s I also added a bit of flakes of each color too. The second picture I sandblast the...

Fused Glass Flower Hangers

Fused Glass Flower Hangers

I’ve blogged about my fused glass flower pockets before.           This time I thought I’d make some fused glass flower hangers, which instead of sitting they hang. The first fused glass hanging pocket, is a triangle. I fused some vitrigraph on top and used stainless steel chain to hang it. The second picture is what it would look like with flowers.           Here are two more fused glass hanging pockets....

In April of 2017 I did an entire newsletter on Creative Paradise’s molds. I love their creative paradise’s texture molds. I used some different colors in my fused glass mantle sconces. This first one is iridized white, lady in the woods. She’s beautiful and she looks amazing with the light behind her.           This fused glass mantle sconce is a beautiful light green with gold dragonflies. With the light behind it, it looks even...

Fused Glass Wind Chimes

Fused Glass Wind Chimes

Posted by on Apr 11, 2018 in Art, Blog, custom, fused glass, handmade | 0 comments

It’s spring time so I made some pretty fused glass wind chimes. I made them with brass chain, stainless steel chain and copper wire.  I think they are all pretty cool I even took some to my store in Denver.                 This fused glass piece is a bit different. I made the light house on a textured mold then instead of having 3 chimes I just have one, but it’s a dolphin. I think it’s beautiful. It can hang inside...

I’m so in spring mode, albeit here in Colorado we don’t always have a spring. Today was beautiful, but tomorrow it could be a blizzard.  Anyway, I just wrote a blog about my fused glass mushrooms and last month I wrote about fused glass garden stakes. So while I was making my mushrooms and the garden stakes I came a cross some fused glass butterflies I made a while back and decided I should make them into night lights similar to my fused glass mushrooms. This...

Finishing my Fused Glass

Finishing my Fused Glass

Just thought I’d show some of my finished fused glass pieces.  Because I was TDY (military term for Business trip) this month and working on production pieces I didn’t have as much time to experiment and play as much as I normally like to do.  But I did get to finish some fused glass pieces. First I finished some fused glass pendants. Hearts, Holey pendants, some with decals, some dichroic, etc.                  ...

I’ve posted about my fused glass textured pieces before. I just love textured glass. These are my Suns’ The first one is the sun and the moon in iridized amber. It’s huge. Matter of fact, I didn’t think I had a stand that would hold it, but this stand is perfect – I do need to paint it – I’m thinking red, what do ya’ll think?  The middle one is beautiful, I love the texture and the colors. The third one is a 5×5 trinket...

During one of my shows last year I was asked if I could make pocket crosses. I wasn’t sure what she mean and she explained they are just to keep them in your pocket without a bail. It reminded me of worry stones. When I was stationed in Turkey, worry stones were very common. In fact I’ve made a few worry stones. I’ll post pictures next time I come across them. But I decided to make some pocket crosses.  There are a couple ways to make fused glass crosses:...

Fused Glass and Concrete

Fused Glass and Concrete

Everything I do involves glass. Recently I took two webinars about concrete jewelry (Curious Mondo). They actually used different concrete. One is more concrete looking grey speckled and one is white. Of course when I use another media it all revolves around how I can use it with glass. The first 4 I made had a bit more water than I should have included, but for the most part they turned out ok. As you can see I added colorant to two of them. I like both the color and the...

While I was in Emeryville visiting my Son, Alyssa, and brand new baby girl. I got a chance to go to the bullseye resource center. One of the things I love about bullseye is they show artists work. This time they showed, 3 fused glass artists.  The first was Susan Martin – her pieces were amazing and so different.           The next one was Adrien Segal – I loved her work as well.           The third was Emily Van...

While I was making my vitrigraph pieces I came across some glass that I wanted to refuse. Some were donut pendants that I found too large. So I decided to cut them down.  I really like them now. They were casted fused glass donuts and I cut off the sides, eventually I plan on making the sides into earrings but we’ll see. I have such a hard time remembering to make earrings and pendant sets.         I also found a large piece of screen-melt that...

Happy New Year!  Every year I do a review of my glass activities. 2017 was a great year for me professionally, family, and in glass. I added more responsibilities at work and I love it. As far as my family life; my daughter graduated High School and started college, and of course my son told me I was going to be a grandmother and on 1 Jan I became a grandma.           I love my job and all the people I work with. I...

As I was preparing for my DYK in my December’s Newsletter, I came across a few other fused glass pieces that I just wasn’t completely happy with and decided I’d re-slump them. I made this beautiful leaf a few months ago, but when I slumped it I didn’t care for it so I re-slumped it and now I love it. It’s perfect for nuts, candy, or even a candy dish. I love it, so pretty.           This piece is similar to the fused...

I mentioned Sandy in another blog. She has amazing taste for real art. Anytime she comes she picks the most unique pieces. In my woodland park show she bought my first fused glass fish.             In the Doherty show Sandy chose several pieces. My fused glass flower, I only made one because it’s a bit of a pain to make.           She also bought one of my beautiful lady in the woods fused glass pieces. ...

Melanie is another one of my friends and amazing customers. She recently started a new job with foster children in El Paso county.  I love children and wanted to support both the children and Melanie.  So I donated over a 100 fused glass pendants. I included chains/cords and put them all in individual bags for the children and for the aid workers.           Anytime I have a show I always make sure I have fused glass pendants in all price ranges so...
