A while back I got a great mold from Bonny Doon (Laurie Spray). I took a fabulous class from her (vitrigraph) and bought several molds from her. I got a Buddha mold but the first 2 times I used it, my pieces didn’t turn out so well. But my next too turned out beautifully. I was even able to take it to my most recent craft show. The mold allows for a 3rd eye to be added, however I displayed it without actually adding it but you can still see it.  The 3rd eye is believe...

July’s fused glass newsletter focuses on holiday fused glass in preparation for my glass shows.  So for this fused glass blog I thought make a couple of plates. I made a fused glass snowman face, it’s perfect for Christmas candy or cookies.           I also wanted to make a full fused glass snowman plate. He is quite big so he is a perfect centerpiece or for cookies.                   I...

All year I have been focusing on the myriad of ways I learn new fused glass techniques; January’s Newsletter focused on the techniques I learned from a class I took from Patty Gray, February’s Newsletter focused on fused glass techniques I learned in classes I took from Tanya Veit,  March’s Newsletter focused on fused glass techniques I learned from ebooks I bought from Helios, April’s Newsletter focused on molds / tutorials from Creative Paradise,...

Fused Glass Painted Quilt Plate – Tanya / AAE Glass

This is one of Tanya’s fused glass techniques that she taught years ago. It’s paint on glass. When she first taught the technique it was on fused glass pendants.  I like this technique so much I think I’ll make some more fused glass pendants!           The first picture is of the first firing. The second one is the fired piece.           The third picture is of the piece in the kiln for the slump firing....

Fused Glass Mosaic Tiles plate – Tanya / AAE Glass

Fused Glass Mosaic Tiles is another of Tanya’s techniques she has on her fused glass website. I’ve never really done mosaics but I like this one.  Tanya included 2 fused glass mosaic techniques in the one video. First I made two sets of mosaic using light blue and a rose colored glass. In reality they could stand on their own.           But instead I cut them into squares and put together a new piece.  I love it. So pretty but it does...

There were other fused glass techniques I learned from Tanya that I won’t be doing blogs about this month. The first time I did fused glass tapestry was with Tanya, as art. The one on the left is the one I learned at Tanya’s and the second one I learn with David Alcala (the original artist). When I took the class from Tanya she told us all we needed to take it from David so I want to write about David’s techniques. I wrote a blog about David when I first...

Fused Glass – Pattern bars

Another fused glass technique I first learned from Tanya is pattern bars. Actually she taught several types of pattern bars. The original fused glass piece we made in class has several techniques including: pattern bars, flash glass, and powder printing.  This blog I’m only going to focus on fused glass pattern bars. Here are some of the pattern bars I made and I’ll go through each one. Basically you make a pattern bar then you cut it up and incorporate it into...

Fused Glass – Flash glass and Sandblast

Posted by on Feb 16, 2017 in Art, Blog, custom, dish, Fresh from the Kiln, fused glass, handmade | 0 comments

In the first big fused glass boot camp I took with Tanya she taught us sandblasting.  The owl is still one of my favorite pieces that I made. She made us do it as homework and it took us all week, but I love it!! I keep it in my curio cabinet to keep it safe. She also had us sandblast in the second boot camp. We were suppose to put alcohol ink on it but I liked it the way it is so I never added the ink.             In addition to the...

I have been busy this month revisiting old fused glass techniques.  However, I had some fused glass bowls I didn’t like all that much.  For anyone who comes to my shows or reads my blogs know that if I don’t like a fused glass piece that I made then I remake it.           They turned out fabulously.  Let me know what you think of them! I’ll be honest I can’t choose which one I like the most!!        ...

There were other fused glass techniques we did in Patty’s class that I didn’t do an individual blog on and I thought I’d mention why.   The castings I do on a relatively consistent basis and I’ll probably be doing a whole month on castings I just didn’t see the point. The strip construction I actually learned in Tanya’s class years ago so I thought I’d do it when I dedicate a month to her classes (in all honesty it will...

Fused Glass Ingots for Jewelry

Fused Glass Ingots for Jewelry

Posted by on Dec 23, 2016 in accessories, Art, Fresh from the Kiln, fused glass, handmade, Pendant | 0 comments

Sometimes, when I create fused glass jewelry I make a block of glass to cut my pieces from. In metal terms a block of metal is called ingot so I thought I’d steal the term for my glass ingots. Anyway first I fuse various pieces of glass together. I added a lot of dichroic and various colors and take it to a full fuse.  You can tell I made a lot of different ones. So I’ll be doing some serious cutting and drilling  soon.           After...

I have two new fused glass dishes. I made these the same way but I used  light colored pebbles in the green one and dark based ones on the red one. I also added some powder printing two the dark one. The green one is pretty shallow and the edges are low. The red one has more depth. Both great fused glass dishes for various uses.             If you would like to see more of my fused glass work please refer to my website Elegant Fused Glass by...

Screen Printed Fused Glass Serenity Prayer!

Posted by on Dec 2, 2016 in Art, Blog, custom, Fresh from the Kiln, fused glass | 0 comments

I did it, I screen printed the serenity prayer on fused glass. It took me forever but Isn’t she beautiful. The first one didn’t turn out because white isn’t strong enough to stand up to the background. I wish it was because the white against the aventurine blue was beautiful. With this one I went a lighter Caribbean blue with iridized fused glass. I also put a strip of aventurine blue at the top. I tried various powder colors, but they were all too light...

Another type of fused glass lantern

Another type of fused glass lantern

Last week I showed you a lantern with several tiny fused glass panels. This week I thought I’d show you a bigger lantern with larger fused glass panels. This one I put some dolphin fused glass pieces and then I put some confetti glass in.  Glass likes to shrink when fired so it’s difficult to get them perfect but I think they fit pretty good.             I also created a powder printed hummingbird piece that I just love. It’s...

I have been working on something I think is really really cool. I am taking lanterns and changing out the old boring glass for Beautiful Art Glass! I have 3 types of lanterns. The first one that I have been working on is a 6 sided lantern. To see if it would work I made the first pane with a picture of Madi. The rest of the panes I fused decals of butterflies and flowers! Really love the way they turned out!                  ...
