A while back I got a great mold from Bonny Doon (Laurie Spray). I took a fabulous class from her (vitrigraph) and bought several molds from her. I got a Buddha mold but the first 2 times I used it, my pieces didn’t turn out so well. But my next too turned out beautifully. I was even able to take it to my most recent craft show. The mold allows for a 3rd eye to be added, however I displayed it without actually adding it but you can still see it.  The 3rd eye is believe...

I wanted to have some new fused glass pieces for my last 3 shows of the year. I made some new snaps, both small and medium; I will say several sold during my liberty show.           I made some new fused glass crosses.           I made some new fused glass trees.  I like not just making them green.           I also made some fused glass brooch pins.           What I always...

I love making soap dishes and sushi dishes so I thought I’d do a little something special for my customers that buy either one. If you buy a fused glass sushi dish from me I’ll give you a set of chop sticks.  It’s kind of funny I know because most people don’t really use these dishes for sushi but it doesn’t really matter.           If you buy a fused glass soap dish from me I’ll give you a bar of soap. Again...

A good home – for Fused Glass Art

I love all my fused glass pieces. Each piece I make is special and has a special place in my heart. But every now and then there is an extra special piece. I made such a piece and at the Holly Berry Art Show it went to a good home. So much work went into this piece and the price reflected it. In this day in age of buying production work some people don’t see the value of true art. But some special people do. I met some wonderful people at Holly Berry Art Show a few...

I’m sure I’ve mentioned that I try to take 3 fused glass classes every year. I love learning new techniques and sharing the love of glass!  In October I took a class with Alyssa Oxley she’s known for her fused glass boxes.           We made 3 fused glass projects in class. I enjoyed making them but they take a lot of measuring. This is my small box. I made my lid a bit big. I think I will trim it down so it fits the box a bit...

When I participate in a Art Show I always do a drawing for $25 worth of free fused glass. Well this past weekend I participated in the Holly Berry Arts Festival at the Rock ledge ranch in Manitou Springs. It’s a fabulous location and I just love showing my fused glass there.  Anyway, I had several people sign up for my fused glass newsletter and enter my drawing.             The Winner was Janet! I’ve sent her a separate email....

In July I made a standing tree so I thought I’d make a few more. I’m not sure if I like the face more or the traditional ornament tree. I’d love to hear what ya’ll think.           This picture shows my first standing tree (with a face),  a standing tree with ornaments, and the green with red dots is an ornament. I love that the trees are so versatile.           If you would like to see more of my...

In July, I made a lot of Fused glass stars and after taking Jodi’s class the first week in August I made even more. I’m not sure which are my favorites. I like the simple 5 point stars because they can be made in any color and typically take 1 firing.  The 6 pointed stars are nice too. I tried it with 2 colors too.           Jodi also taught chubby stars, some standing some hanging. I’m still working on getting my standing stars to...

Albeit this time I thought I’d make a some holiday ones. I made a snowman and a mummy fused glass spoon.                       I also made a simple fused glass spoon with frit. I like the...

During my August show, one of my long time customers had a request. She wanted some of my fused glass earrings changed from posts and dangles to clip-on earrings.  So I did it. I based it on whether the earrings were posts or dangles. If they were posts I put them on a finding that had a pad. If they were dangles I put them on a clip-on finding that was made for dangles. So about 1/2 were dangles and 1/2 were posts, now she has fused glass earrings that she can wear.  ...

I’ve blogged about my good friend Marilyn several times. She is a teacher and she loves the minions so I made her a sign for her students and some minion stand-ups and magnets. I must admit the little standups are so cute, and I can put any picture on them and make them any color.             If you would like to see more of my fused glass work please refer to my website Elegant Fused Glass by Karen. I’ve blogged about Mark Hufford many times. Mark is an outstanding painter, over the years I’ve even bought 3 of his fused glass pieces. I have all his videos, but until this past weekend I’ve never painted one of his designs. Mark taught at Bella studios in Denver, it was a great location and the staff very helpful.       Mark and I have been facebook friends for a while now but this was my first time meeting him. He is an extremely giving...
