I normally post about how busy I am, well today I took some time out and had breakfast with friends.  Iris and Lela are two of my best friends and I just don’t spend enough time with them. So today we had breakfast and talked.  It reminds me of how important my friends are and how much I love spending time with them. To make it even better Madi was home and she went with us.  Lela and Iris are both very special women. They are...

Fused Glass Mirror

Fused Glass Mirror

Posted by on Jan 27, 2018 in accessories, Art, custom, Fresh from the Kiln, fused glass, handmade | 0 comments

One of the things I’ve always wanted to make since I started working with fused glass is mirrors. I’ve always liked mirrors and to add glass to them just makes them even more beautiful. This first one is a beveled mirror and I used silicon to glue fused glass pebbles around the outside of the mirror. I haven’t put a hanger on the back of the mirror, but it looks great on a clear stand. I blanked out the mirror section.          ...

Fused Glass Pocket Crosses

During one of my shows last year I was asked if I could make pocket crosses. I wasn’t sure what she mean and she explained they are just to keep them in your pocket without a bail. It reminded me of worry stones. When I was stationed in Turkey, worry stones were very common. In fact I’ve made a few worry stones. I’ll post pictures next time I come across them. But I decided to make some pocket crosses.  There are a couple ways to make fused glass crosses:...

Trip to Rhode Island

I thought I’d post some pictures from my latest business trip to Rhode Island. I’m sure you will wonder why what does it have to do with glass?  Well I’ll tell you, we stayed at the Marriott in Newport, Rhode Island and as soon as I walked in there was an amazing chandler. It was recycled glass, it was decanters with the bottoms cut off and light bulbs threaded through each bottle. I don’t know if you can see how truly beautiful it is. Some of the...

Fused Glass and Concrete

Fused Glass and Concrete

Everything I do involves glass. Recently I took two webinars about concrete jewelry (Curious Mondo). They actually used different concrete. One is more concrete looking grey speckled and one is white. Of course when I use another media it all revolves around how I can use it with glass. The first 4 I made had a bit more water than I should have included, but for the most part they turned out ok. As you can see I added colorant to two of them. I like both the color and the...

While I was in Emeryville visiting my Son, Alyssa, and brand new baby girl. I got a chance to go to the bullseye resource center. One of the things I love about bullseye is they show artists work. This time they showed, 3 fused glass artists.  The first was Susan Martin – her pieces were amazing and so different.           The next one was Adrien Segal – I loved her work as well.           The third was Emily Van...

While I was making my vitrigraph pieces I came across some glass that I wanted to refuse. Some were donut pendants that I found too large. So I decided to cut them down.  I really like them now. They were casted fused glass donuts and I cut off the sides, eventually I plan on making the sides into earrings but we’ll see. I have such a hard time remembering to make earrings and pendant sets.         I also found a large piece of screen-melt that...

Last year I took a class with Laurie Spray on cane’s and vitrigraph. I’ve used some of the blue cane in several pieces but I wanted to use some of the orange cane I made in actual fused glass pieces. I made 3 small dishes. each one is very beautiful.         I also made some pieces for jewelry.           I really like cane and hopefully by March I’ll have my kiln set up and...

Happy New Year!  Every year I do a review of my glass activities. 2017 was a great year for me professionally, family, and in glass. I added more responsibilities at work and I love it. As far as my family life; my daughter graduated High School and started college, and of course my son told me I was going to be a grandmother and on 1 Jan I became a grandma.           I love my job and all the people I work with. I...

As I was preparing for my DYK in my December’s Newsletter, I came across a few other fused glass pieces that I just wasn’t completely happy with and decided I’d re-slump them. I made this beautiful leaf a few months ago, but when I slumped it I didn’t care for it so I re-slumped it and now I love it. It’s perfect for nuts, candy, or even a candy dish. I love it, so pretty.           This piece is similar to the fused...

In my woodland park show she bought my first fused glass fish.             In the Doherty show Sandy chose several pieces. My fused glass flower, I only made one because it’s a bit of a pain to make.           She also bought one of my beautiful lady in the woods fused glass pieces. ...

Melanie is another one of my friends and amazing customers. She recently started a new job with foster children in El Paso county.  I love children and wanted to support both the children and Melanie.  So I donated over a 100 fused glass pendants. I included chains/cords and put them all in individual bags for the children and for the aid workers.           Anytime I have a show I always make sure I have fused glass pendants in all price ranges so...

So not only did my old friends come by I met some new ones as well. Julie came in wanting to match the teal in her shirt with a pendant. Within 2 minutes we found 2 fused glass pendants, 1 teal which matched her shirt perfectly and a red one went well as well.           Julie said she likes to match her jewelry with her clothes and asked if she sent me a shirt if I could match it and of course the answer is yes. I love doing custom work. In fact...

Last show Vicki bought one of my favorite fused glass vases of all times and during Doherty, Julie bought one of my favorite dishes. This is truly special one of a kind piece.             I really love this technique I have 2 others but much smaller.    ...

As I’ve mentioned, I really enjoyed Doherty Craft Fair this year.  Since it was my last show of the season so many of my friends came by to see me. I even remembered to take pictures of a few of them. The first picture is of Sandy, Me, and Cheryl. We’ve been friends for quite some time. Ironically we met at a craft fair and I put on a special show for their Red Hat group. Both Cheryl and Sandy have been wonderful friends.  Good Friends are so important,...
