Yes this is a new picture. My Beautiful daughter is now a High School Senior and we had her senior pictures taken last month and our wonderful photographer let us include a couple of family pictures too. It's hard to believe she's 17 years old. It seems like yesterday she was born. Anyway, I thought I'd update our family picture.

 *****

BTW I'm still going to do the free fused glass pendant for anyone that tells me about a unique idea for a DYK as explained in my January Newsletter (an excerpt is below).

Since it’s a new year I thought I’d open it up for recommendations. In fact, I’m going to reward those with  unique DYK recommendations with a  fused glass pendant ($20 or less).   If you have a question about glass that you want me to do a DYK article just email me at elegantfusedglass@gmail.com There’s no limit to how many topics you can recommend, however it has to be a topic I haven’t written a DYK about already and it has to be in keeping with fused glass or jewelry.   If I use your DYK I will send you a handmade fused glass pendant ($20 or less).

(It should go without saying but I'll say it anyway,  I have the right to choose which DYK recommendations are acceptable to receive a free fused glass pendant!)

Fresh From the Kiln:

In July I talked about my good friend and how I made her some plates for her room, to share with her kids. This is what she did with them. Didn't she do a great Job!

Fused glass - Elephants

Fused glass - Elephants

I love reading but I don't get a chance to read very much, so I listen to audio books in my studio. It really lets me focus on my glass and not think about other things. I read an amazing book the other day, by Jodi Pichoult, "Leaving Time". It was about Elephants. It was such an fabulous book. I …

Fused glass memories

Fused glass memories

In July I did a blog about these fused glass pictures I did for a fabulous friend of mine and her elementary school class.  After I gave them to her she asked me if I could make some fused glass night lights and magnets with colored pictures. I went a little crazy. I made two fused glass night lights with …

Fused Glass Memories - continued

Earlier this week I wrote a blog about adding colored decals to fused glass. My friend also wanted some sepia choices. So I made her a sepia fused glass night light and magnet. The nice thing about custom sepia decals is that they are fused on so they can be put on anything not just night light and magnets.   …Read more.

Commercial Fused Glass Soap Dishes

Commercial Fused Glass Soap Dishes

A few blogs ago I talked about my commercial fused glass soap dishes. The one is for a hotel in California. I made 200 fused glass soap dishes. It was a lot of work. This is tough glass so it's not your typical fusing schedule or cutting. First I cut the glass into the size requested.         …

It happened again, Broken Aspens

It happened again, Broken Aspens

During my Woodland Park show. A wonderful customer bought my multi season fused glass aspens. Sadly before she got it home it was dropped and broke. As I've mentioned in the past. If someone buys a large fused glass piece from me and they break it (within a couple of months) I will refuse it into something else. As I …

Did you know ...

This section is used to answer any questions you may have or to pass on tidbits of information that add value and enhance knowledge regarding fused glass, metals, or jewelry in general. Let me know if you have anything you'd like me to include.

This DYK is about fused glass pockets. Fused glass pockets are created by putting fiber paper 1/8 inch or thicker. The key is to fuse the glass long & hot enough to fuse the glass together, but not too hot to distort the glass.

---

I've talked about fused glass photo stands before. They are made the same way as pockets. I put the fiber paper between the glass fused it.  After it cools to room temperature I clean it without taking out the fiber paper. If you take out the fiber paper the glass will fuse the rest of the way together.

fused glass blogs

This fused glass pocket vase still has the fiber inside, to show you how it works. This vase is perfect size for  small flowers, incense, and reed diffusers.

This fused glass pocket vase has a bend on the bottom so it cab stand on it's own.

---

Fused glass pocket vases don't need to be transparent or stand on their own. This one is opal and instead of standing on it's own it can go in a little stand like I have it shown here. Or if you look on the top of the vase, I have little white marks. My intent is to drill holes so I hang it.

This one is special because it is a unique technique. Again, I can either drill holes or put it in stand. I actually like this one in a stand. It's relatively large and deep so it can handle longer stemmed flowers.

---
Fused glass websites

You can see they can be pretty much any shape / size. The blue one can also be a picture frame. Fused glass pockets are fabulous and so much fun to use.

I can also fuse other things on top, like I did here, or a decal, or a powder printing. The possibilities are endless. As you can see this one is ready for hanging with either wire, leather,  or cord.  The loops are actually fused inside the glass!

---

This is a special fused glass pocket. It is a pocket, but I put it on the back and I cut a hole in the center. That means it you can slide in a picture or a mirror. It's extremely organic and versatile. This one is pretty thick and heavy; however, it looks just great in the stand.

I did the same with this one but it can be horizontal or vertical. Again, I think it's a little thick to drill holes. Plus I like the versatility of this fused glass pocket frame without drilling the holes.

---

As you can see I can make them in any size or shape. I like this one quite a bit bigger. Again I could drill holes or leave it in a stand.

In fact, I made another fused glass pocket and after I spent 15 minutes cleaning out the fiber paper, I dropped it on the concrete floor and shattered it.

Yep; fun, fun!
